<P>Direct laser-reduction of graphene oxide (GO), as a lithography-free approach, has been proven effective in manufacturing in-plane micro-supercapacitors (MSCs) with fast ion diffusion. However, the power density and the charge/discharge rate are still limited by the relatively low conductivity of electrodes. Here, we report a facile approach by exploiting femtolaser <I>in situ</I> reduction of the hydrated GO and chloroauric acid (HAuCl4) nanocomposite simultaneously, which incorporates both the patterning of rGO electrodes and the fabrication of Au current collectors in a single step. These flexible MSCs boast achievements of one-hundred fold increase in electrode conductivities of up to 1.1 × 106 S m−1, which provide superior rate capability (50% for the charging rate increase from 0.1 V s−1 to 100 V s−1), sufficiently high frequency responses (362 Hz, 2.76 ms time constant), and large specific capacitances of 0.77 mF cm−2 (17.2 F cm−3 for volumetric capacitance) at 1 V s−1, and 0.46 mF cm−2 (10.2 F cm−3) at 100 V s−1. The use of photo paper substrates enables the flexibility of this fabrication protocol. Moreover, proof-of-concept 3D MSCs are demonstrated with enhanced areal capacitance (up to 3.84 mF cm−2 at 1 V s−1) while keeping high rate capabilities. This prototype of all solid-state MSCs demonstrates the broad range of potentials of thin-film based energy storage device applications for flexible, portable, and wearable electronic devices that require a fast charge/discharge rate and high power density.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>Direct laser-reduction of graphene oxide (GO), as a lithography-free approach, has been proven effective in manufacturing in-plane micro-supercapacitors (MSCs) with fast ion diffusion. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c5ee03637b'> </P>

<P>We present measurements of the near side of triggered di-hadron correlations using neutral strange baryons ( A, (A) over bar) and mesons (K-s(0)) at intermediate transverse momentum ( 3 < p(T) < 6 GeV/c) to look for possible flavor and baryon-meson dependence. This study is performed in d+Au, Cu+Cu, and Au+Au collisions at root S-NN = 200 GeV measured by the STAR experiment at RHIC. The near-side di-hadron correlation contains two structures, a peak which is narrow in azimuth and pseudorapidity consistent with correlations from jet fragmentation, and a correlation in azimuth which is broad in pseudorapidity. The particle composition of the jet-like correlation is determined using identified associated particles. The dependence of the conditional yield of the jet-like correlation on the trigger particle momentum, associated particle momentum, and centrality for correlations with unidentified trigger particles are presented. The neutral strange particle composition in jet-like correlations with unidentified charged particle triggers is not well described by PYTHIA. However, the yield of unidentified particles in jet-like correlations with neutral strange particle triggers is described reasonably well by the same model.</P>
Harvesting of Scenedesmus obliquus using dynamic filtration with a perforated disk

Dynamic filtration adopting the rotation of a perforated disk was applied to harvest Scenedesmus obliquus. The highest rotation speed of the disk was found to give rise to 464 and 454 L/m2/h of plateau permeate flux for microfiltration (MF) membrane and ultrafiltration (UF) membrane, respectively, which were approximately 9 and 11 times higher than those with no rotation. This marked performance improvement for both filtration methods, with the UF exhibiting lower irreversible fouling, was attributed to the reduction of not only cake fouling (up to 97%) but also adsorption fouling (up to 71%) by way of high shear stress on the membrane surface. At the high rotation speed in which fouling was effectively suppressed, flux was linearly increased by trans-membrane pressure; at low speeds where fouling formation remained less disrupted, on the other hand, it reached a certain limit. Besides, fouling built and worsened particularly by high amounts of extracellular polymeric substance (EPS), which was as in the case of the seawater-supplemented culture, was effectively alleviated by fast rotation. The dynamic UF based on the rotation of the perforated disk was indeed a promising and suited means of harvesting S. obliquus, especially cells grown under economical yet EPS-inducing cultivation conditions.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Recently, IceCube found evidence for a diffuse signal of astrophysical neutrinos in an energy range of ∼ 60 TeV to the PeV-scale [1]. The origin of those events, being a key to understanding the origin of cosmic rays, is still an unsolved question. So far, analyses have not succeeded to resolve the diffuse signal into point-like sources. Searches including a maximum-likelihood-ratio test, based on the reconstructed directions and energies of the detected down- and up-going neutrino candidates, were also performed on IceCube data leading to the exclusion of bright point sources. In this paper, we present two methods to search for faint neutrino point sources in three years of IceCube data, taken between 2008 and 2011. The first method is an autocorrelation test, applied separately to the northern and southern sky. The second method is a multipole analysis, which expands the measured data in the northern hemisphere into spherical harmonics and uses the resulting expansion coefficients to separate signal from background. With both methods, the results are consistent with the background expectation with a slightly more sparse spatial distribution, corresponding to an underfluctuation. Depending on the assumed number of sources, the resulting upper limit on the flux per source in the northern hemisphere for an E - 2 energy spectrum ranges from ∼ 1.5 · 10 - 8 GeV/cm2 s−1, in the case of one assumed source, to ∼ 4 · 10 - 10 GeV/cm2 s−1, in the case of 3500 assumed sources.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> We applied two methods to search for clusters of astrophysical neutrinos on background. </LI> <LI> Investigated both hemispheres separately and three different energy spectra. </LI> <LI> Saw underfluctuation consistent with background and set limits on astrophysical flux. </LI> <LI> Compared limits to recently found astrophysical flux to constrain number of sources. </LI> <LI> Excluded few sources of very hard energy spectra for seen astrophysical flux. </LI> </UL> </P>

In order to simulate the corrosion behavior of Zr-4 alloy in pressurized water reactors it was implanted (or bombarded) with 190ke V $Zr^+\; and \;Ar^+$ ions at liquid nitrogen temperature and room temperature respectively up to a dose of $5times10^{15} \sim 8\times10^{16} \textrm{ions/cm}^2$ The oxidation behavior and electrochemical vehavior were studied on implanted and unimplanted samples. The oxidation kinetics of the experimental samples were measured in pure oxygen at 923K and 133.3Pa. The corrosion parameters were measured by anodic polarization methods using a princeton Applied Research Model 350 corrosion measurement system. Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES) and X-ray Photoelectric Spectroscopy (XPS) were employed to investigate the distribution and the ion valence of oxygen and zirconium ions inside the oxide films before and after implantation. it was found tat: 1) the $Zr^+$ ion implantation (or bombardment) enhanced the oxidation of Zircaloy-4 and resulted in that the oxidation weight gain of the samples at a dose of $8times10^{16}\textrm{ions/cm}^2$ was 4 times greater than that of the unimplantation ones;2) the valence of zirconium ion in the oxide films was classified as $Zr^0,Zr^+,Zr^{2+},Zr^{3+}\; and \;Zr^{4+}$ and the higher vlence of zirconium ion increased after the bombardment ; 3) the anodic passivation current density is about 2 ~ 3 times that of the unimplanted samples; 4) the implantation damage function of the effect of ion implantation on corrosion resistance of Zr-4 alloy was established.

<P>The LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) experiment will search for dark matter particle interactions with a detector containing a total of 10 tonnes of liquid xenon within a double -vessel cryostat. The large mass and proximity of the cryostat to the active detector volume demand the use of material with extremely low intrinsic radioactivity. We report on the radioassay campaign conducted to identify suitable metals, the determination of factors limiting radiopure production, and the selection of titanium for construction of the LZ cryostat and other detector components. This titanium has been measured with activities of U-238(e) < 1.6 mBq/kg, U-238(I) < 0.09 mBq/kg, Th-232(e) = 0.28 +/- 0.03 mBq/kg, Th-232(I) = 0.25 +/- 0.02 mBq/kg, K-40 <0.54 mBq/kg, and (60) Co <0.02 mBq/kg (68% CL). Such low intrinsic activities, which are some of the lowest ever reported for titanium, enable its use for future dark matter and other rare event searches. Monte Carlo simulations have been performed to assess the expected background contribution from the LZ cryostat with this radioactivity. In 1,000 days of WIMP search exposure of a 5.6-tonne fiducial mass, the cryostat will contribute only a mean background of 0.160 +/- 0.001(stat) +/- 0.030(sys) counts. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V.
