Abstract

Cobalt and silver co-doping has been undertaken in ZnO thin films grown by pulsed laser deposition in order to investigate the ferromagnetic properties in ZnO-based diluted magnetic materials and to understand the eventual relation between ferromagnetism and charge carriers. Hall transport measurements reveal that Ag doping up to 5% leads to a progressive compensation of the native n-type carriers. The magnetization curves show ferromagnetic contributions for all samples at both 5K and room temperature, decreasing with increasing the Ag concentration. First principles modeling of the possible configurations of Co–Ag defects suggests the formation of nano-clusters around interstitial Co impurity as the origin of the ferromagnetism. The Ag co-doping results in a decrease of the total spin of these clusters and of the Curie temperature.

Highlights

We fabricate ZnO:Co films co-doped by Ag.

Reduction of the number of charge carriers in co-doped samples is observed.

Decrease of magnetic moment per Co in Ag-rich samples is observed.

Theoretical calculations support suppression of ferromagnetism in Ag-doped ZnO:Co.

Characterisation of Melt Spun Ni-Ti Shape Memory Ribbons’ Microstructure

NiTi alloys are the most technologically important medical Shape Memory Alloys in a wide range of applications used in Orthopaedics, Neurology, Cardiology and interventional Radiology as guide-wires,self-expandable stents, stent grafts, inferior vena cava filters and clinical instruments. This paper discusses the use of rapid solidification by the melt spinning method for the preparation of thin NiTi ribbons for medical uses. Generally, the application of rapid solidification via melt-spinning can change the micro-structure drastically, which improves ductility and shape memory characteristics and leads to samples with small dimensions. As the increase in the wheel speed led to a reduced ribbon thickness, the cooling rate increased and, therefore, the martensitic substructure became finer. Furthermore, no transition from the crystalline phase to the amorphous phase was obtained by increasing the cooling rate, even at a wheel speed of 30 m/s. Specimens for our metallographic investigation were cut from the longitudinal cross sec-tions of melt-spun ribbons. Conventional TEM studies were carried out with an acceleration voltage of 120 kV. Additionally, the chemical composition of the samples was examined with a TEM equipped with an EDX analyser. The crystallographic structure was determined using Bragg-Brentano x-ray diffraction with Cu-Kα radiation at room temperature.

Purpose: The study aimed to assess the long-term results of the stapled hemorrhoidopexy (SH) using high-volume devices equipped with innovative technology, evaluating recurrence rate, complications rate, and patients’ satisfaction. Methods: All the patients who underwent SH using high-volume devices (TST Starr plus, Touchstone International Medical Science Corp., Ltd.) for II to IV symptomatic hemorrhoidal disease from November 2012 to December 2014 were enrolled. Between December 2019 and January 2020, all of them were phone called to come to undergo a proctological reevaluation and asked to fill some questionnaires about hemorrhoidal prolapse recurrence, symptoms recurrence, and surgery satisfaction. Results: Fifty-nine patients with a mean age of 47 years completely answered the questionnaires. Twenty-two of them accepted to come to undergo a proctological reevaluation while 27 preferred to answer only by phone due to their referred wellbeing. The median follow-up was 70.5 months (range, 60–84 months). The recurrence rate was 5.1% with a mean satisfaction level after surgery was 9.1 (range, 0–10) and 84.7% of patients whose satisfaction scored ≥8. The mean value of Cleveland Global Quality of Life assessment was 0.79 (range, 0.71–0.93). There were no cases of new onset of impaired anal continence after surgery. Conclusion: The new generation high-volume devices to perform SH resulted to be safe and effective for II to IV degree hemorrhoidal prolapse leading to a lower long-term recurrence rate with an evident reduction of postoperative complications in comparison with the low-volume SH.

We studied on comparison with growth patterns in between E.coli and S. typhi in variety density of glucose and lactose contained media, The results were as fallows. 1. E.coli was very fast growth patterns other than S. typhi all density of glucose and lactose contained media 2. S. typhi was high growth patterns only in 0.2% glucose con-tained media 3. S. typhi was similar growth patterns in 0.5%, 1.0% glucose contained media. lactose contained media and carbohydrate not contained media 4. Exponential phase was after 4 to 8 hours culture stationary phase was after 8 hours culture and death phase was very fast after 10 hours culture
