Robust Water-Repellent Treatment of Cotton Fabrics with Polysiloxane Modified via Thiol-Ene Click Reaction

        Haifeng Liu,Zhu Wang,Chengjun Sun 한국섬유공학회 2018 Fibers and polymers Vol.19 No.3

A facile and inexpensive way to prepare self-crosslinkable poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) for superhydrophobic treatment of cotton fabrics is reported in the study. Through thiol-ene click reaction between mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMOS) and vinyl-containing poly(dimethylsiloxane) (VPDMS), PDMS-g-TMOS can be simply and quickly synthesized. The trimethoxysilane group of PDMS-g-TMOS can react with hydroxyl group on cotton fabric and other -Si(OCH3)3 groups. The synthesized polysiloxane (PDMS-g-TMOS) was identified by FT-IR and 1H-NMR. The morphology of the treated cotton fabric was observed by SEM and XPS was used to analyze the elemental composition on the surface of cotton fabric. The analysis results indicated that the surface was fully covered with PDMS. Due to the low surface energy of PDMS and the rough surfaces of cotton fabric, the optimized water contact angle (WCA) and sliding angle were respectively 154 o±0.4 o and 14 o±0.5 o, indicating superhydrophobicity. Moreover, water spray test (AATCC Test Method 22-2010) was also applied to evaluate the water repellency of treated cotton fabric and a score of 90 was assigned according to AATCC Test Method 22- 2010. The durability of treated cotton fabric was tested by 50 laundering cycles. The resultant WCA barely decreased and the score of water spray test dropped from 90 to 80, showing the reasonable wash durability.

Study on the Energy Spectrum Response of a CdZnTe Detector

        Yuandong Li,Liangquan Ge,Kun Sun,Shangqing Sun,Guoqiang Zeng,Chengjun Tan 한국물리학회 2020 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.76 No.9

In order to study the energy spectrum response of a CdZnTe detector, we firstly measured the temperature dependence and the bias dependence of the main characteristic parameters for both a quasi-hemispherical detector and a CAPtureTM plus detector. Secondly, we designed a low-noise readout circuit for the CdZnTe detector and measured the noise. Finally, we evaluated the energy spectrum response of the detector to different radioactive sources at different temperatures by connecting the detector to the readout circuit. The research showed that both detectors had low leakage current and junction capacitance, as well as good stability in temperature and bias; the quasi-hemispheric detector had a smaller leakage current and junction capacitance compared to the CAPtureTM plus detector; under zero input capacitor, the noise of the readout circuit was 612e, with the noise slope being 5.44e/pF; at room temperature(20 °C), the energy resolutions of the detector reached 3.84% and 1.36% for X-rays from 241Am (59.5 keV) and gamma-rays from 137Cs (662 keV), respectively; the signal-noise ratio of the output signal reached 31:1 with the rise time being 90 ns; at low temperature, the energy resolution reached 3.41% for the X-rays from 241Am (59.5 keV); the detector achieved an excellent spectrum response and was able to distinguish clearly the energy peaks of 152Eu and 226Ra.

      • New Forms of CdSe: Molecular Wires, Gels, and Ordered Mesoporous Assemblies

        Hudson, Margaret H.,Dolzhnikov, Dmitriy S.,Filatov, Alexander S.,Janke, Eric M.,Jang, Jaeyoung,Lee, Byeongdu,Sun, Chengjun,Talapin, Dmitri V. American Chemical Society 2017 JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY - Vol.139 No.9

This work investigates the structure and properties of soluble chalcogenidocadmates, a molecular form of cadmium chalcogenides with unprecedented one-dimensional bonding motifs. The single crystal X-ray structure reveals that sodium selenocadmate consists of infinite one-dimensional wires of (Cd2Se3)(n)2(n-) charge balanced by Na+ and stabilized by coordinating solvent molecules. Exchanging the sodium cation with tetraethylammonium or didodecyldimethylammonium expands the versatility of selenocadmate by improving its solubility in a variety of polar and nonpolar solvents without changing the anion structure and properties. The introduction of a micelle-forming cationic surfactant allows for the templating of selenocadmate, or the analogous telluride species, to create ordered organic-inorganic hybrid CdSe or CdTe mesostructures. Finally, the interaction of selenocadmate 'wires' with Cd2+ ions creates an unprecedented gel-like form of stoichiometric CdSe. We also demonstrate that these low-dimensional CdSe species show characteristic semiconductor behavior, and can be used in photodetectors and field-effect transistors.
