This paper shows a control strategy to improve energy consumption using a double three-phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor. Focus is to significantly reduce the DC link power dissipation of the DC bus capacitor to exceed lifetime. In particular, shifted control technique is developed and implemented on a drive unit used in automotive industry to control the multi-phase fault-tolerant system. As a result, the DC link capacitor ripple current can be compensated by shifting the redundant three-phase systems towards each other. Conventional double three-phase PMSM is compared to the identical machine but with new control strategy. It is shown that the control strategy allows significant advantages without additional hardware and software measures.

A system has been investigated for the detection of incoming direction of an emergency vehicle. Acoustic detection methods based on a cross microphone array have been implemented. It is shown that source detection based on time delay estimation outperforms sound intensity techniques, although both techniques perform well for the application. The relaying of information to the driver as a warning signal has been investigated through the use of ambisonic technology and a 4 speaker array which is ubiquitous in most modern vehicles. Simulations show that accurate warning information may be relayed to the driver and afford correct action.

The stresses that develop in a stepped unrounded D-ring loaded with internal pressures at a 20% squeeze rate are analyzed using the photoelastic experimental hybrid method. The analysis demonstrated that the contact stresses on both the upper and front sides of the Dring increased as the applied internal pressure increased, with the magnitudes of σX/pi and σY/pi being considerably higher than those of τXY/pi. Moreover, as applied internal pressure increased, the semi-circular portion of the D-ring moved to fill the space ahead of the step before contacting the restraining wall of the front side. The order of magnitude of stresses in region 1 of the front side of the D-ring was lower than those in region 2. At an internal pressure of 3.92 MPa, the contact stresses on the upper side decreased before increasing again at points away from the region of extrusion. The study further showed that a sharp corner in the geometry of the D-ring does not contribute to the generation of detrimental stresses that may lead to failure of the D-ring before extrusion.

This research aims to extend the analysis of the factors influencing consumer purchase of luxury goods. The effects of brand and country of origin (CoO) on the purchase decision are specifically considered. A total sample of 1103 respondents in seven countries (China, France, India, Italy, Japan, Russia, USA) is analyzed through a structured questionnaire administered online. The research tests the scales of decision-making and brand attachment through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. It also tests the causal model of relationships between decision-making and luxury brand attachment. The richness of this research is related to the intercultural analysis of the results obtained in seven countries. These results concern the differences and similarities in: (1) defining the concept of country of origin (country of design, country of manufacture/country of assembly); (2) the combined effects of factors, including brand, CoO, price, guarantee, design and advertising, in the purchasing decision for luxury brands; and (3) the links between decision-making and attachment of the consumer to the luxury brand. The results are interesting in terms of management recommendations for a company that wishes to expand internationally into one of the geographic areas covered by this study, since significant differences are observed.
Small Airway Impairment and Bronchial Hyperresponsiveness in Asthma Onset
Bruno Sposato,Marco Scalese,Maria Giovanna Migliorini,Maurizio Di Tomassi,Raffaele Scala 대한천식알레르기학회 2014 Allergy, Asthma & Immunology Research Vol.6 No.3
Purpose: Our study tried to find a relationship between baseline FEF25-75% and airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) and whether a greater FEF25-75% impairmentmay be a marker of a more severe hyperresponsiveness in subjects with normal FEV1 and FEV1/FVC and suggestive asthma symptoms. Besides,we tried to asses a FEF25-75% cut-off value to identify hyper-reactive subjects. Methods: 4,172 subjects (2,042 M; mean age: 38.3±14.9; meanFEV1% predicted: 100.5±12.7 and FEV1/FVC: 85.4±6.8) were examined after performing a methacholine (Mch) test. All subjects reported a symptomonset within 3 years before the test. Subjects with PD20<400 or >400 μg were arbitrarily considered affected by moderate/severe and borderline AHR,respectively. Results: PD20 values were 213 (IQR:86-557), 340 (IQR:157-872) and 433 (IQR:196-1032) μg in subjects with baseline FEF25-75≤50%, FEF25-75between 50 and 70% and FEF25-75>70% respectively (P<0.0001). Only in moderate/severe hyper-reactive subjects (excluded borderlines), PD20 waslower in the FEF25-75≤50% subgroup than in the 1 with FEF25-75>70%. The hyperreactive subjects percentage, was higher in those with FEF25-75≤50%and lower in those with FEF25-75>70% (P<0.0001). FEF25-75<50% (compared to FEF25-75>70%) was a higher AHR risk factor, especially in subjects withmoderate/severe AHR (OR: 2.18 [IQR:1.41-3.37]; P<0.0001). Thresholds yielding the highest combined sensitivity/specificity for FEF25-75% were 75.19(area under curve [AUC]: 0.653) and 74.95 (AUC:0.688) in subjects with PD20<2,400 and <400 μg respectively. FEV1, FVC, and FEV1/FVC measured insubjects with different FEF25-75≤50%, FEF25-75>50 and ≤70% or FEF25-75>70% levels were similar both in normoreactive and hyperreactive subjects. Conclusions: At asthma onset, reduced baseline FEF25-75 values with normal FEV1 and FEV1/FVC may predict AHR. Detectable predictive cut-offvalues do not exist because even normoreactive subjects can show lower FEF25-75 values. Furthermore, a greater FEF25-75 reduction may be associated to amore severe AHR, suggesting a possible FEF25-75 role in the management of asthma when FEV1 and FEV1/FVC are normal.
Damaging wind storms in North Eastern Argentina: seven case studies
Bruno Natalini,Jorge L. Lassig,Mario B. Natalini,Claudia Palese 한국풍공학회 2012 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.15 No.2
Argentina is a large country with several areas dominated by different climate mechanisms. Since 2008, damage to civil structures caused by strong winds has been surveyed in Chaco and the neighbouring areas. Chaco is a province of NEA, the north-east region of the Argentina, which also includes the provinces of Formosa, Corrientes and Misiones. The strong wind events in NEA are related to severe convective storms. In this work, we present findings about wind-induced damage in NEA and the prevailing meteorological conditions. We emphasise seven particular cases for which the conditions of the atmosphere were reconstructed through reanalysis.
