APIS – A Miniaturized Robot for Precision Assembly with Low-Cost Piezoelectric Motors

This paper deals with the requirements for and the realization of a miniaturized parallel kinematic robot named APIS, which is driven by low-cost piezoelectric motors and thus designed for low-cost applications. After the need and potentials of this concept have been clarified, a detailed description of the development process is given. In doing so, kinematic aspects as well as the driving concept and the robot control, including the development of a suitable motor control with power stage,are described. In addition to the first functional prototype some performance measurements are presented, which show that the robot is able to obtain a repeatability of less than 34 μm. To provide better results, possibilities for future developments are identified, including optimized sensor feedback and motion control.
Accelerated SCC Testing of Stainless Steels According to Corrosion Resistance Classes

The German Guidelines for stainless steel in buildings (Z. 30. 3-6) issued by the German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt) categorizevarious stainless steel grades into five corrosion resistance classes (CRCs). Only 21 frequently used grades are approved and assigned to these CRCs. To assign new or less commonly used materials, a large program of outdoor exposure tests and laboratory tests is required. The present paper shows theresults of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) tests that can distinguish between different CRCs. Slow strain rate tests (SSRT) were performedin various media and at different temperatures. CRC IV could be distinguished from CRC II and CRC III with a 31. 3 % Cl- as MgCl2 solutionat 140 °C. CRC II and CRC III could be differentiated by testing in a 30% Cl- as MgCl2 solutionat 100 °C.
Exploiting corpus-related ontologies for conceptualizing document corpora

<P>As a greater volume of information becomes increasingly available across all disciplines, many approaches, such as document clustering and information visualization, have been proposed to help users manage information easily. However, most of these methods do not directly extract key concepts and their semantic relationships from document corpora, which could help better illuminate the conceptual structures within given information. To address this issue, we propose an approach called “Clonto” to process a document corpus, identify the key concepts, and automatically generate ontologies based on these concepts for the purpose of conceptualization. For a given document corpus, Clonto applies latent semantic analysis to identify key concepts, allocates documents based on these concepts, and utilizes WordNet to automatically generate a corpus-related ontology. The documents are linked to the ontology through the key concepts. Based on two test collections, the experimental results show that Clonto is able to identify key concepts, and outperforms four other clustering algorithms. Moreover, the ontologies generated by Clonto show significant informative conceptual structures.</P>
