Temperature-Induced Magnetic Phase Transition in Bulk Cr-Doped CdTe Crystals
Kowan-Young Ko,Mark Blamire 한국물리학회 2006 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.49 No.2I
We report ferromagnetism and a first-order magnetic phase transition near Tc in bulk Cr-doped CdTe (x = 0.04 and 0.06) crystals. Powder and surface -2 high-resolution X-ray diffraction exhibited a single phase with a zinc-blende structure. Magnetic measurements at x = 0.04 and 0.06 clearly showed ferromagnetism with Hc = 139.6 Oe and 34.4 Oe, respectively, at 77 K. The appearance of ferromagnetism could be explained by a ferromagnetic interaction of Cr ions existing in a Cr-dissolved CdTe phase, with a Tc of 395 K. This phase at x = 0.06 had a ferromagnetic moment of 0.20 μB/molecule and an effective magnetic moment of 2.21 μB/molecule under a magnetic field of 0.1 T. The temperature dependence of resistance exhibited Efros-Shklovskii(ES)-type variable range hopping proportional to 1/T1/2.
