Critical buckling loads of carbon nanotube embedded in Kerr's medium
Bensattalah, Tayeb,Bouakkaz, Khaled,Zidour, Mohamed,Daouadji, Tahar Hassaine Techno-Press 2018 Advances in nano research Vol.6 No.4
In this article, the critical buckling of a single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) embedded in Kerr's medium is studied. Based on the nonlocal continuum theory and the Euler-Bernoulli beam model. The governing equilibrium equations are acquired and solved for CNTs subjected to mechanical loads and embedded in Kerr's medium. Kerr-type model is employed to simulate the interaction of the (SWNT) with a surrounding elastic medium. A first time, a comparison with the available results is made, and another comparison between various models Winkler-type, Pasternak-type and Kerr-type is studied. Effects of nonlocal parameter and aspect ratio of length to diameter of nanobeam, as well as the foundation parameters on buckling of CNT are investigated. These results are important in the mechanical design considerations of nanocomposites based on carbon nanotubes.

This article studies the free and forced vibrations of the carbon nanotubes CNTs embedded in an elastic medium including thermal and dynamic load effects based on nonlocal Euler-Bernoulli beam. A Winkler type elastic foundation is employed to model the interaction of carbon nanotube and the surrounding elastic medium. Influence of all parameters such as nonlocal small-scale effects, high temperature change, Winkler modulus parameter, vibration mode and aspect ratio of short carbon nanotubes on the vibration frequency are analyzed and discussed. The non-local Euler-Bernoulli beam model predicts lower resonance frequencies. The research work reveals the significance of the small-scale coefficient, the vibrational mode number, the elastic medium and the temperature change on the non-dimensional natural frequency.

The severe deterioration of structures has led to extensive research on the development of structural repair techniques using composite materials. Consequently, previous researchers have devised various analytical methods to predict the interface performance of bonded repairs. However, these analytical solutions are highly complex mathematically and necessitate numerous calculations with a large number of iterations to obtain the output parameters. In this paper, an artificial neural network prediction models is used to calculate the interfacial stress distribution in RC beams strengthened with FRP sheet. The R2value for the training data is evaluated as 0.99, and for the testing data, it is 0.92. Closed-form solutions are derived for RC beams strengthened with composite sheets simply supported at both ends and verified through direct comparisons with existing results. A comparative study of peak interfacial shear and normal stresses with the literature gives the usefulness and effectiveness of ANN proposed. A parametrical study is carried out to show the effects of some design variables, e.g., thickness of adhesive layer and FRP sheet.

Using the non-local elasticity theory, Timoshenko beam model is developed to study the non- local buckling of Triple-walled carbon nanotubes (TWCNTs) embedded in an elastic medium under axial compression. The chirality and small scale effects are considered. The effects of the surrounding elastic medium based on a Winkler model and van der Waals’ (vdW) forces between the inner and middle, also between the middle and outer nanotubes are taken into account. Considering the small-scale effects, the governing equilibrium equations are derived and the critical buckling loads under axial compression are obtained. The results show that the critical buckling load can be overestimated by the local beam model if the small-scale effect is overlooked for long nanotubes. In addition, significant dependence of the critical buckling loads on the chirality of zigzag carbon nanotube is confirmed. Furthermore, in order to estimate the impact of elastic medium on the non-local critical buckling load of TWCNTs under axial compression, the use of these findings are important in mechanical design considerations, improve and reinforcement of devices that use carbon nanotubes.

This paper investigates the buckling behavior of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite plates supported by Kerr foundation model. In this foundation elastic of Kerr consisting of two spring layers interconnected by a shearing layer. The plates are reinforced by single-walled carbon nanotubes with four types of distributions of uniaxially aligned reinforcement material. The analytical equations are derived and the exact solutions for buckling analyses of such type’s plates are obtained. The mathematical models provided, and the present solutions are numerically validated by comparison with some available results in the literature. Effect of various reinforced plates parameters such as aspect ratios, volume fraction, types of reinforcement, parameters constant factors of Kerr foundation and plate thickness on the buckling analyses of carbon nanotube-reinforced composite plates are studied and discussed.

Influence of all parameters such as nonlocal small-scale effects, Winkler modulus parameter, vibration mode and aspect ratio of nanobeam on the vibration frequency are analyzed and discussed. The mechanical properties of carbon nanotubes and polymer matrix are treated and an analytical solution is derived using the governing equations of the nonlocal Euler-Bernoulli beam models. Solutions have been compared with those obtained in the literature and The results obtained show that the non-dimensional natural frequency is significantly affected by the small-scale coefficient, the vibrational mode number and the elastic medium.

The incorporation of carbon nanotubes in a polymer matrix makes it possible to obtain nanocomposite materials with exceptional properties. It's in this scientific background that this work was based. There are several theories that deal with the behavior of plates, in this research based on the Mindlin-Reissner theory that takes into account the transversal shear effect, for analysis of the critical buckling load of a reinforced polymer plate with parabolic distribution of carbon nanotubes. The equations of the model are derived and the critical loads of linear and parabolic distribution of carbon nanotubes are obtained. With different disposition of nanotubes of carbon in the polymer matrix, the effects of different parameters such as the volume fractions, the plate geometric ratios and the number of modes on the critical load buckling are analysed and discussed. The results show that the critical buckling load of parabolic distribution is larger than the linear distribution. This variation is attributed to the concentration of reinforcement (CNTs) at the top and bottom faces for the X-CNT type which make the plate more rigid against buckling.

This work focuses on the behavior of non-local shear deformation beam theory for the vibration of functionally graded (FG) nanobeams with porosities that may occur inside the functionally graded materials (FG) during their fabrication, using the non-local differential constitutive relations of Eringen. For this purpose, the developed theory accounts for the higher-order variation of transverse shear strain through the depth of the nanobeam. The material properties of the FG nanobeam are assumed to vary in the thickness direction. The equations of motion are derived from Hamilton's principle. Analytical solutions are presented for a simply supported FG nanobeam with porosities. The validity of this theory is verified by comparing some of the present results with other higher-order theories reported in the literature, the influence of material parameters, the volume fraction of porosity and the thickness ratio on the behavior mechanical P-FGM beam are represented by numerical examples.
