Prosthetic misfit of implant-supported prosthesis obtained by an alternative section method

Rodrigo Tiossi,Hilmo Barreto Leite Falcão-Filho,Fábio Afrânio de Aguiar, Júnior,Renata Cristina Silveira Rodrigues,Maria da Gloria Chiarello de Mattos,Ricardo Faria Ribeiro 대한치과보철학회 2012 The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics Vol.4 No.2

PURPOSE Adequate passive-fitting of one-piece cast 3-element implant-supported frameworks is hard to achieve. This short communication aims to present an alternative method for section of one-piece cast frameworks and for casting implant-supported frameworks. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three-unit implant-supported nickel-chromium (Ni-Cr) frameworks were tested for vertical misfit (n = 6). The frameworks were cast as one-piece (Group A) and later transversally sectioned through a diagonal axis (Group B) and compared to frameworks that were cast diagonally separated (Group C). All separated frameworks were laser welded. Only one side of the frameworks was screwed. RESULTS The results on the tightened side were significantly lower in Group C (6.43 ± 3.24 µm) when compared to Groups A (16.50 ± 7.55 µm) and B (16.27 ± 1.71 µm) (P<.05). On the opposite side, the diagonal section of the one-piece castings for laser welding showed significant improvement in the levels of misfit of the frameworks (Group A, 58.66±14.30 µm; Group B, 39.48±12.03 µm; Group C, 23.13±8.24 µm) (P<.05). CONCLUSION Casting diagonally sectioned frameworks lowers the misfit levels. Lower misfit levels for the frameworks can be achieved by diagonally sectioning one-piece frameworks.

Endodontic treatment of mandibular molar with root dilaceration using Reciproc single-file system

Daniely Amorin Meireles,Mariana Mena Barreto Bastos,André Augusto Franco Marques,Lucas da Fonseca Roberti Garcia,Emílio Carlos Sponchiado Júnior 大韓齒科保存學會 2013 Restorative Dentistry & Endodontics Vol.38 No.3

Biomechanical preparation of root canals with accentuated curvature is challenging. New rotatory systems, such as Reciproc, require a shorter period of time to prepare curved canals, and became a viable alternative for endodontic treatment of teeth with root dilaceration. Thus, this study aimed to report a clinical case of endodontic therapy of root with accentuated dilaceration using Reciproc single-file system. Mandibular right second molar was diagnosed as asymptomatic irreversible pulpitis. Pulp chamber access was performed, and glide path was created with #10 K-file (Dentsply Maillefer)and PathFile #13, #16 and #19 (Dentsply Maillefer) up to the temporary working length. The working length measured corresponded to 20 mm in the mesio-buccal and mesio-lingual canals, and 22 mm in the distal canal. The R25 file (VDW GmbH) was used in all the canals for instrumentation and final preparation, followed by filling with Reciproc gutta-percha cones (VDW GmbH) and AH Plus sealer (Dentsply Maillefer),using thermal compaction technique. The case has been receiving follow-up for 6mon and no painful symptomatology or periapical lesions have been found. Despite the difficulties, the treatment could be performed in a shorter period of time than the conventional methods.

Characterization and evaluation of cytotoxicity of biphasic calcium phosphate synthesized by a solid state reaction route

        G.D. Webler,M.J.M. Zapata,L.C. Agra,E. Barreto,A.O.S. Silva,J.M. Hickmann,E.J.S. Fonseca 한국물리학회 2014 Current Applied Physics Vol.14 No.6

Calcium phosphate compounds have been widely studied for biomedical applications because of their chemical and structural similarity to the mineral phase constituting bone and teeth. In this work, biphasic calcium phosphate ceramics (HAP/b-TCP), with tunable phase composition ratio, were synthesized by a solid state reaction process. The effect of varying the heat treatment temperature (700, 800, 900, 1000, and 1100 C) on the formation of the ceramic materials and their related cytotoxicity were examined. The phase composition and morphology of the prepared ceramic powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, and the functional groups were analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy. Cell culture experiments, using murine macrophages, showed that the synthesized HAP/b-TCP materials did not exhibit cytotoxicity regardless of the doses assayed or the differences in composition ratio of HAP/b-TCP, suggesting the potential of HAP/ b-TCP for biological applications.

Using a feed forward ANN to model the inelastic behaviour of confined sandwich panels

        María E. Marante,Wilmer J. Barreto,Ricardo A. Picón 국제구조공학회 2019 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.71 No.5

The analysis and design of complex structures like sandwich-panel elements are difficult; the use of finite element method for the analysis is complicated and time consuming when non-linear effects are considered. On the other hand, artificial neural network (ANN) models can capture the non-linear effects and its application requires lesser computational demand. Two ANN models were trained, tested and validated to compute the force for a given displacement of a sandwich-type roof element; 2555 force and element deformation pairs were used for training the ANN models. For the models trained without considering the damping effect, there were two values in the input layer: maximum displacement and current displacement, and for the model considering damping, displacement from the previous step was used as an additional input. Totally, 400 ANN models were trained. Results show that there is a good agreement between the experimental and simulated data, and the models showed a good performance with a mean square error value of 4548.85. Both the ANN models could simulate the inelastic behaviour, loss of rigidity, and evolution of permanent displacements. The models could also interpolate and extrapolate, which enables them to be used as an analysis and design tool for such complex elements.

Winery Grape-residue Extract: Effects on Quality and Sensory Attributes of Cooked Chicken Meat

        Ligianne Din Shirahigue,Carmen J. Contreras-Castillo,Miriam Mabel Selani,Ana Paula Nadai,Gerson Barreto Mourão,Cláudio Rosa Gallo 한국식품과학회 2011 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.20 No.5

Sensory analysis, instrumental color, pH, and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) were determined on cooked chicken meat with and without grape seed extract during refrigerated storage. The effectiveness of extracts of winery grape residue from the grape varieties ‘Isabel’ and ‘Niagara’ were tested to evaluate their effectiveness at delaying lipid oxidation in cooked chicken meat and stored under refrigeration (4±1ºC). The samples were aerobically and vacuum packaged and stored for 14 days. ‘Isabel’ grape extract (IGE) and ‘Niagara’ grape extract (NGE) proved effective at promoting oxidative stability when applied at concentrations of 40 or 60 mg of gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/kg, with results similar to the synthetic antioxidant butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT). The antioxidant efficiency of the extracts was highly dependent on the concentration used. The addition of grape-residue extracts combined with vacuum packaging proved to be a good method for increasing lipid stability in cooked chicken meat stored under refrigeration.
