Novel construction of quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check codes with variable code rates for cloud data storage systems

        Vairaperumal Bhuvaneshwari,Chandrapragasam Tharini 한국전자통신연구원 2023 ETRI Journal Vol.45 No.3

This paper proposed a novel method for constructing quasi-cyclic low-density parity-check (QC-LDPC) codes of medium to high code rates that can be applied in cloud data storage systems, requiring better error correction capabilities. The novelty of this method lies in the construction of sparse base matrices, using a girth greater than 4 that can then be expanded with a lift factor to produce high code rate QC-LDPC codes. Investigations revealed that the proposed large-sized QC-LDPC codes with high code rates displayed low encoding complexities and provided a low bit error rate (BER) of 10-10 at 3.5 dB Eb/N0 than conventional LDPC codes, which showed a BER of 10-7 at 3 dB Eb/N0. Subsequently, implementation of the proposed QC-LDPC code in a softwaredefined radio, using the NI USRP 2920 hardware platform, was conducted. As a result, a BER of 10-6 at 4.2 Eb/N0 was achieved. Then, the performance of the proposed codes based on their encoding–decoding speeds and storage overhead was investigated when applied to a cloud data storage (GCP). Our results revealed that the proposed codes required much less time for encoding and decoding (of data files having a 10 MB size) and produced less storage overhead than the conventional LDPC and Reed–Solomon codes.

A High Performance Three-Phase Telecom Supply Incorporating a HF Switched Mode Rectifier with a Phase Shifted PWM Controller

        Arushi Shahani,Bhim Singh,Bhuvaneshwari G 전력전자학회 2010 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.10 No.3

Telecom supplies need to conform to low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and high Power Factor (PF) as per IEC 61000-3-2 and IEEE 519-1992 standards. These high rating power supplies use a three phase utility in which low THD and high PF are realized via various passive and active wave shaping schemes. In this paper, a new design for three phase telecom power supplies is presented with circuit parameter values optimized for high performance in terms of a low THD, high PF, low ripple and high line and load regulation using a suitable combination of various strategies. The performance of the power supply is validated by extensive simulations.

A New Waveshaper for Harmonic Mitigation in Vector Controlled Induction Motor Drives

Singh, Bhim,Garg, Vipin,Bhuvaneshwari, G. The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers 2008 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.3 No.2

This paper deals with a new wave shaping technique for cost effective harmonic mitigation in ac-dc converter feeding Vector Controlled Induction Motor Drives(VCIMD's) for improving power quality at the point of common coupling(PCC). The proposed harmonic mitigator consists of a polygon connected autotransformer based twelve-pulse ac-dc converter and a small rating passive shunt filter tuned for $11^{th}$ harmonic frequency. This ac-dc converter eliminates the most dominant $5^{th},\;7^{th},\;and\;11^{th}$ harmonics and imposes the reduction of other higher order harmonics from the ac main current, thereby improving the power quality at ac mains. The design of autotransformer is carried out for the proposed ac-dc converter to make it suitable for retrofit applications, where presently a 6-pulse ac-dc converter is used. The effect of load variation on VCIMD is also studied to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed ac-dc converter in a wide operating range of the drive. Experimental results obtained on the developed laboratory prototype of the proposed harmonic mitigator are used to validate the model and design of the ac-dc converter.

Bio-mimicking hybrid polymer architectures as adhesion promoters for low and high surface energy substrates

        Monisha Baby,Vijayalakshmi K. Periya,Bhuvaneshwari Soundiraraju,Nisha Balachandran,Suchithra Cheriyan,Santhosh K. Sankaranarayanan,Satheesh Chandran Maniyeri 한국공업화학회 2021 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.100 No.-

Thermoplastic materials like High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) and Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) arepromising candidates for specialty industry/aerospace sectors considering their exceptional propertiesand lower densities. However, the low surface energy leading to poor wetting and reduced adhesioncurtails the scope of their wide-spread usage. In this work, we report adhesion promoter primers basedon epoxy–catechol with and withoutfluorinated polymer and investigated their adhesion promotionefficiency on low/high surface energy substrates. The rational design of catechol-fluorine-epoxy hybridnetwork, mimicking mussel chemistry enabled a non-destructive surface activating approach resultingin profound adhesion promotion. Thefluorine containing primer could effectively enhance adhesionbetween homo and hetero interfaces of Aluminium/HDPE/PTFE owing to the good interface interactionand could outperform common etching methods. A series of molecular level characterizations togetherwith computational and AFM studies provided evidences for the high degree of interaction of the primerbetween the substrates and epoxy-based adhesives. Bond integrity endurance test using a weight of 10and 20 kg resulted in ‘no fail’ categorization for the primed substrates during the entire 40 days testduration. The catechol-functionalized primers reported here can be a good overreaching approach tokeep non-polar substrates afloat in advanced sectors.

Advantages, Disadvantages, Indications, Contraindications and Surgical Technique of Laryngeal Airway Mask

        Anubhav Jannu,Ashim Shekar,Ramdas Balakrishna,Sudarshan H.,Veena G. C.,Bhuvaneshwari S. 대한두개안면성형외과학회 2017 Archives of Craniofacial Surgery Vol.18 No.4

The beauty of the laryngeal mask is that it forms an air tight seal enclosing the larynx rather than plugging the pharynx, and avoid airway obstruction in the oropharynx. The goal of its development was to create an intermediate form of airway management face mask and endotracheal tube. Indication for its use includes any procedure that would normally involve the use of a face mask. The laryngeal mask airway was designed as a new concept in airway management and has been gaining a firm position in anesthetic practice. Despite wide spread use the definitive role of the laryngeal mask airway is yet to be established. In some situations, such as after failed tracheal intubation or in oral surgery its use is controversial. There are several unresolved issues, for example the effect of the laryngeal mask on regurgitation and whether or not cricoids pressure prevents placement of mask. We review the techniques of insertion, details of misplacement, and complications associated with use of the laryngeal mask. We then attempt to clarify the role of laryngeal mask in air way management during anesthesia, discussing the advantages and disadvantages as well as indications and contraindications of its use in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
