A GUI-based Application for Learning Computer Architecture using Educational Microprocessor

For learning CPU architecture, we take advantage of the educational microprocessor called KERNEL. It is designed to visually present register value and signal flow. In this research, we implement KERNEL on a FPGA board and its console on a mobile computer. Our proposed system on FPGA board has the function of transmitting internal state of processor to console with Bluetooth communication. And, console is realized by a GUIbased application on a mobile computer and shows the processor state sent by FPGA board. In addition, it also has the simulator of microprocessor. This system enables educational processor to be provided at low cost and contributes flexible learning environment.
