      • Study of Relationship Between Illness Perception and Delay in Seeking Help for Breast Cancer Patients Based on Leventhal's Self-Regulation Model

Attari, Seyedeh Maryam,Ozgoli, Giti,Solhi, Mahnaz,Majd, Hamid Alavi Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.no.sup3

One of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in breast cancer patients is delay in seeking help. Leventhal's self-regulation model provides an appropriate framework to assess delay in seeking help. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between "illness perception" and "help seeking delay" in breast cancer patients based on Leventhal's self-regulation model. In this correlational descriptive study with convenience sampling conducted in 2013, participants were 120 women with breast cancer who were diagnosed in the last year and referred to chemotherapy and radiotherapy centers in Rasht, Iran. Data collection scales included demographic data, Revised Illness Perception Questionnaire (IPQ-R)and a researcher made questionnaire to measure the delay in seeking help. Pre-hospital delay (help seeking delay) was evaluated in 3 phases (assessment, disease, behavior). The data were analyzed using SPSS-19. The mean (SD) age calculated for the patients was $47.3{\pm}10.2$. Some 43% of the patients had a high school or higher education level and 82% were married. The "pre-hospital delay" was reported ${\geq}3months$. Logistic regression analysis showed that none of the illness perception components were correlated with appraisal and behavioral delay phases. In the illness delay phase, "time line" (p-value =0.04) and "risk factors"(p-value=0.03) had significant effects on reducing and "psychological attributions" had significant effects on increasing the delay (p-value =0.01). "Illness coherence" was correlated with decreased pre-hospital patient delay (p-value<0.01). Women's perceptions of breast cancer influences delay in seeking help. In addition to verifying the validity of Leventhal's self-regulation model in explaining delay in seeking help, the results signify the importance of the "illness delay phase" (decision to seek help) and educational interventions-counseling for women in the community.

An experimental investigation on effect of elevated temperatures on bond strength between externally bonded CFRP and concrete

Behzad Attari,Mohammadreza Tavakkolizadeh 국제구조공학회 2019 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.32 No.5

The bond strength between composite laminates and concrete is a key factor that controls the behavior of concrete members strengthened with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) sheets, which can be affected by several parameters such as thermal stresses and surface preparation. This article presents the result of an experimental study on the bond strength between FRP sheets and concrete at ambient temperature after specimens had been exposed to elevated temperatures of up to 200°C. For this purpose, 30 specimens of plain concrete with dimensions of 150×150×350 mm were prepared. Three different conventional surface preparation methods (sandblasting, wire brushing and hole drilling) were considered and compared with a new efficient method (fiber implantation). Deformation field during each experiment was monitored using particle image velocimetry. The results showed that, the specimens which were prepared by conventional surface preparation methods, preserved their bond integrity when exposed to temperature below glass transition temperature of epoxy resin (about 60°C). Beyond this temperature, the bond strength and stiffness decreased significantly (about 50%) in comparison with control specimens. However, the specimens prepared by the proposed method displayed higher bond strengths of up to 32% and 90% at 25°C and 200°C, respectively.

      • Resonance of a rectangular plate influenced by sequential moving masses

        Hassanabadi, Mohsen Ebrahimzadeh,Attari, Nader K.A.,Nikkhoo, Ali,Mariani, Stefano Techno-Press 2016 Coupled systems mechanics Vol.5 No.1

In this work, an improved semi-analytical technique is adopted to track the dynamic response of thin rectangular plates excited by sequential traveling masses. This technique exploits a so-called indirect definition of inertial interaction between the moving masses and the plate and leads to a reduction, in the equations of motion, of the number of time-varying coefficients linked to the changing position of the masses. By employing this optimized method, the resonance of the plate can be obtained according to a parametric study of relevant maximum dynamic amplification factor. For the case of evenly spaced, equal masses travelling along a straight line, the resonance velocity of the masses themselves is also approximately predicted via a fast methodology based on the fundamental frequency of the system only.

      • Strain-induced suppression of the miscibility gap in nanostructured Mg2Si-Mg2Sn solid solutions

        Yi, Su-in,Attari, Vahid,Jeong, Myunghwan,Jian, Jie,Xue, Sichuang,Wang, Haiyan,Arroyave, Raymundo,Yu, Choongho The Royal Society of Chemistry 2018 Journal of materials chemistry. A, Materials for e Vol.6 No.36

<P>Solid solutions of Mg2Si and Mg2Sn are promising thermoelectric materials owing to their high thermoelectric figures-of-merit and non-toxicity, but they may undergo phase separation under thermal cycling due to the presence of miscibility gaps, implying that the thermoelectric properties could be significantly degraded during thermoelectric device operation. Herein, this study investigates the strain-induced suppression of the miscibility gap in solid solutions of Mg2Si and Mg2Sn. Separately prepared Mg2Si and Mg2Sn powders were made into (Mg2Si)0.7(Mg2Sn)0.3 mixtures using a high energy ball-milling method followed by spark plasma sintering. Afterwards, the phase evolution of the mixtures, depending on thermal annealing and mixing conditions, was studied experimentally and theoretically. Transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction results show that, despite the presence of a miscibility gap in the pseudo-binary phase diagram, the initial mixture of Mg2Si and Mg2Sn evolved towards a solid solution state after annealing for 3 hours at 720 °C. Thermodynamic analysis as well as phase-field microstructure simulations show that the strain energy due to the coherent spinodal effect suppresses the chemical spinodal entirely and prevents phase separation. This strategy to suppress the miscibility gap induced by lattice strain through non-equilibrium processing can benefit the thermoelectric figure-of-merit by maximizing phonon alloy scattering. Furthermore, stable solid solutions by engineering phase diagrams have the potential to facilitate the reliable long term operation of thermoelectric generators under continuous thermal loads.</P>

Lateral performance of CRCS connections with tube plate

        Rahman Jafari,Nader K.A. Attari,Ali Nikkhoo,Saeid Alizadeh 국제구조공학회 2019 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.32 No.1

This paper presents experimental and analytical studies to evaluate the cyclic behaviour of Circular Reinforced Concrete column Steel beam (CRCS) connections. Two 3/4-scale CRCS specimens are tested under quasi-static reversed cyclic loading. Specimens were strengthened with a tube plate (TP) and a steel doubler plate (SDP). Furthermore; nine interior beam-through type RCS connections are simulated using nonlinear three-dimensional finite element method using ABAQUS software and are verified with experimental results. The results revealed that using the TP improves the performance of the panel zone by providing better confinement to the concrete. Utilizing the TP at the panel zone may absorb and distribute stress in this region. Results demonstrate that TP can be used instead of SDP. Test records indicate that specimens with TP, with and without SDP maintained their maximum strength up to 4% drift angle, satisfying the recommendation given by AISC341-2016 for composite special moment-resisting frames.
