The birth professionals : Emerging practices of birthing in contemporary India
Sreya Majumdar,Anindita Majumdar 이화여자대학교 한국여성연구원 2021 Asian Journal of Women's Studies(AJWS) Vol.27 No.4
In this paper, we define what we understand by birth professionals and examine how they have emerged in India in response to existing obstetric and gynecological practices. The focus here is on the emerging category of the “birth professional,” as we look back into how professional midwifery, doulas, childbirth educators and lactation consultants have come to define “newer” birthing options for women, with the corresponding decline of traditional midwifery in India. Finally, the paper uses ethnographic field data on professional midwives and doulas, to define what birth professionalism represents in India through case studies.

( Anindita Mondal ),( Rumila Majumdar ),( Suva Pal ) 한국스포츠정책과학원(구 한국스포츠개발원) 2011 International Journal of Applied Sports Sciences Vol.23 No.2
The present study was carried out on 50 shooters of different rifle shooting clubs of Hooghly district of West Bengal, India. The purpose of this study is to reproduce the baseline anthropometric and physiological parameters of rifle shooters of West Bengal. The comparative study reveals that max. O2 consumption (VO2 max.) values of shooters of the present study are lower than international standards for VO2 max of swimmers, runners, footballers, basket ball players and soccer players but they are very close to that of weight lifters, shot putters and discus throwers and also their non-athlete counterparts. Significantly higher grip strength values have been observed when compared with the normal adult Indian males and females of the same age category. Female shooters have significantly higher anaerobic power values in comparison to their non-athlete counterparts although male shooters have lower anaerobic power values in comparison to the adult non-athlete boys of West Bengal. Breath holding time of male shooters of the present study is lower than shooters of Jat Bttalion of Punjab, India, but an insignificant difference in breath holding time has been observed between male and female shooters of the present study.
