        Advances in Floating Aerogenerators: Present Status and Future

        High altitude winds are considered to be the most favorable source of renewable energy in the future. In this paper, review has been conducted on harnessing of high altitude wind energy via floating type aero-generators. This new generation of systems employs tethered wings, aircrafts, multi-copters, balloons in order to harness the higher atmospheric winds. A number of systems based on different concepts have been analyzed and tested from mid-seventies, with a rapid acceleration in last couple of years. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of different technologies that have been designed/ built to harvest the energy of high altitude winds, highlighting the accomplished results, technological issues and classification of such systems have been proposed on the basis of their working and design. Apart from the Airborne Wind Energy or High-Altitude Wind Energy based systems, a brief overview on offshore floating wind turbines have also been provided.

        Did the countrywide lockdown act like a catalyst in turning a cyclone to a super‑cyclone AMPHAN?

        Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and countrywide lockdown, the super-cyclone Amphan collided with the eastern coast of India, majorly affecting the Indian state of West Bengal. The lockdown restricted the industrial emissions of greenhouse gases known for increasing the average global temperature, however the sea-surface temperature (SST) profile over the Bay of Bengal indicated higher than average SST values in preceding 5 years. The unexpected increase in sea-surface temperature might have played a major role in formation cyclonic disturbances over the Bay of Bengal, which might have triggered the formation of super cyclone Amphan. The anomalous increase in average SST could be attributed to the sudden lowering of particulate matter concentration due to the lockdown, which resulted in the increase in levels of solar insolation on the sea-surface due to the absence of particulate matter load, which reflects/ absorbs the incoming solar radiation to the surface keeping the sea-surface temperature at lower levels.

        Aggravation of CoVID-19 infections due to air pollutant concentrations in Indian cities

        The CoVID-19 infections began rising worldwide during the initial weeks of March 2020, reacting to which the Government of India called for nationwide lockdown for ~ 3 weeks. The concentration of pollutants during the lockdown were compared with pollution levels recorded during the preceding year for the same time frame. A direct relationship was established between the high level of air pollutants (PM2.5, PM10, NO2 and SO2) and CoVID-19 infections being reported in the Indian cities. The correlation indicates that the air pollutants like PM2.5, PM10, NO2 and SO2 are aggravating the number of casualties due to the CoVID-19 infections. The transmission of the virus in the air is in the form of aerosols; and hence places which are highly polluted may see a proportionate rise in CoVID-19 cases The high-level exposure of PM2.5 over a long period is found to be significantly correlated with the mortality per unit confirmed CoVID-19 cases as compared to other air pollutant parameters like PM10, NO2 and SO2.

        Non-exhaust particulate pollution in Asian countries: A comprehensive review of sources, composition, and health effects

        Recent regulations on exhaust emissions have led to an increase in non-exhaust emissions, which now surpasses exhaust emissions. Non-exhaust emissions are mainly generated from brake and tire particle abrasion, road wear, and re-suspended road dust. In Asia, non-exhaust emissions have increased significantly over the past 50 years, resulting in almost 92% of the population breathing polluted air, which accounts for 70% of air pollution related-deaths. Most Asian countries with poor air quality are developing or underdeveloped. Taking this into consideration, the current study aims to shed light on particulate pollution from non-exhaust emissions in the Asian context to assess the current status and its health consequences and provides technological solutions. The study is based on an in-depth analysis of existing reviews and research concerning non-exhaust emissions and their health impacts in Asia to pinpoint knowledge gaps. The study found that particulate pollutants had exceeded WHOs standards in many Asian countries, bringing deleterious health consequences among children and the elderly. The findings underscore the significance of future researchers efforts to devise solutions that curtail non-exhaust emissions, ultimately reducing air pollution, augmenting air quality, fostering better health outcomes, and paving way for a more sustainable future before it is too late.

        3D Printing: It’s Microfluidic Functions and Environmental Impacts

        Innovative micro products essential for the utilization of a wide variety of macro subjects have complicated three-dimensional (3D) microstructures in addition to a high aspect ratio. Till date, many micro manufacturing processes have been developed, but a specific class of such processes is applicable for fabrication of true 3D micro assembly. The aptitude to process a broad range of materials and the ability to fabricate functional and geometrically complicated, 3D microstructures provides the additive manufacturing (AM) processes which significant profits over traditional methods, such as lithography-based or micromachining approaches investigated widely in the past. In this paper, 3D micro-AM processes have been classified into three main groups, including scalable micro-AM systems, 3D direct writing, and hybrid processes, and the key processes have been reviewed comprehensively. Principle and recent progress of each 3D micro-AM process have been described, and the advantages and disadvantages of each process have low-cost along with its occupational health safety & environmental issues.
