        Applicability of MEP and SEMEP for Computing Total Sediment Load (Case Study: Chelichay Catchment in Golestan Province)

        A reliable and consistent method of computing total sediment discharge within a river system is one of the most important practicalobjectives of research in fluvial processes. Modified Einstein Procedure (MEP) and Series Expansion Modified Einstein Procedure(SEMEP) methods were used to determine total sediment load on the basis of the data collected from a depth-integrated sediment. Onthe basis of Fifty nine data sets measured from 5 rivers including a sand bed river and four garvel bed rivers, the accuracy of sedimentdischarge calculations were examined. In a sand bed river the results of SEMEP method was remarkably better than MEP method. InSEMEP method, calculated and measured total load are almost equal (Mean discrepancy ratio is 1.27) while MEP model computetotal load discharge approximately 3 times greater than averaged measured values (Mean discrepancy ratio is 2.9). In all gravel bedrivers, except one, SEMEP method was better in predicting total load than MEP method. The results show that SEMEP method ismore comprehensive in computing total sediment load from informations gathered with depth integrated suspended load sampler inboth gravel and sand bed rivers.

        Roll Bonding Behaviour of Al-3003/Al-4043 and Al-3003/Zn Sheets

        In the present study, the roll bonding behaviour of Al-3003/Al-4043 and Al-3003/Zn sheets were compared. The bi-layer sheets were produced by a roll bonding process at different reductions in thickness and rolling temperatures. The joint strengths of the sheets were evaluated by peel and bend testing before and after supplemental annealing treatment. The peeled surfaces were examined using a scanning electron microscope. The results indicated that the Al-3003/Al-4043 sheets were bonded with higher joint strength and lower threshold reductions in thickness with respect to the Al-3003/Zn sheets. In contrast to the Al-3003/Zn sheets, significant improvement was observed in the joint strength of the Al-3003/Al-4043 sheets after annealing treatment. Moreover, electron microscopy examinations showed that the fracture types of the Al-3003/Al-4043 and Al-3003/Zn sheets were predominantly ductile and brittle, respectively.

        Functional Analyses of PtROS1-RNAi in Poplars and Evaluation of Its Effect on DNA Methylation

        DNA methylation occurs mostly at the C5 positionof dinucleotide symmetric CpG sites in genomic DNA. Abalance is maintained in the plant genome between DNAmethylation mediated by RNA-directed DNA methylation(RdDM) and DNA demethylation mediated by the DEMETER(DME) protein family and REPRESSOR OF SILENCING(ROS1). We used double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) silencingto suppress ROS1 protein expression in ‘Nanlin895’ (Populusdeltoides × Populus euramericana ‘Nanlin895’). Leaves ofWT and transformant poplars revealed more symmetricmethylation on CpG sites than roots and stems. In addition,leaves of transformant poplars revealed more methylatedCpG sites in both 5.8S rDNA and histone H3 compared toWT types via 0, 50 and 100 mM NaCl treatments. In asymmetricmethylation sites, transformant poplars exhibited moremethylated CpHpG and CpHpH contexts than WT poplars. On the other hand, hypermethylation induced by PtROS1-RNAi construct resulted in pleiotropic phenotypic changes intransgenic poplars. The percentage of wavy leaves was increasedmaximum by ~45% in transgenic poplars. Also, the numberof leaves was increased by ~200 number in transformants. Furthermore, shooting (%) and rooting (%) was decreased intransgenic poplars versus WT.

        Coordinated Design of TCSC and PSS Controllers using VURPSO and Genetic Algorithms for Multi-machine Power System Stability

        Thyristor controlled series capacitor (TCSC) can regulate line impedance and therefore increase transferred power of the system. On the other hand power system stabilizer (PSS) increases dynamic stability of generator. To enhance the stability, combination of TCSC and PSS can be applied, and in such a case coordination of TCSC and PSS is essential. This paper applies this combined controller in order to enhance the stability of multi-machine system. Parameters of these controllers are optimized by velocity update relaxation particle swarm optimization (VURPSO) algorithm and Genetic algorithm (GA). The simulation results show that the combination of VURPSO algorithm and GA leads to a better design and stability.
