Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a pathological response to trauma characterized by frequent recollections, recurrentnightmares, and flashbacks of the traumatic event(s). To date, the precise mechanisms underlying the development of PTSDremain unknown. Several studies have suggested that antiepileptic drugs, such as gabapentin and lamotrigine, may be effectivein the treatment of PTSD symptoms. We report on a 15-year-old Japanese female junior high school student who developedPTSD symptoms following repeated teasing from male classmates. Additionally, we underscore the beneficial effects of treatmentwith gabapentin and lamotrigine on flashbacks and nightmares. This patient developed PTSD symptoms after repeated teasingfrom male classmates at school. Her flashbacks and nightmares were treated with a combination of gabapentin and lamotrigine. After recovery, treatment with lamotrigine alone controlled her symptoms. Our observations suggest that a process of sensitizationmay be involved in the development of PTSD symptoms. Additionally, gabapentin and/or lamotrigine were effective in the treatmentof flashbacks and nightmares in this patient. Thus, doctors should consider using these anti-epileptic drugs as an alternativeapproach to treating PTSD symptoms.
Reliability Improvement of Titania Ceramics with Surface Flaw Through High Voltage Screening

Effect of high voltage screening was examined on mechanical strength of titania ceramics with two different surface roughness. Roughly finished sample showed degraded mechanical strength meaning that the introduced flaw played the role of starting point of mechanical fracture. On such sample, electrically weak parts were eliminated by applying a screening field. Mechanical strength measurement on survived parts revealed that after screening the Weibull plots bended to become a convex curve while plots at high strength region were almost the same. This result means that relatively low mechanical strength parts were eliminated by the electrical method. As a result the Weibull modulus calculated from all the data increased, demonstrating the effect of high voltage screening on titania ceramics containing fracture controlling surface flaws. Roles of the surface flaw such as a common weak spot for both failures are disscussed in relation to the electric field concentration similar to that of mechanical stress.

We attempted the first measurement of the spectral width of the nickel-like molybdenum x-ray laser ( = 18.895 nm) by use of a high-resolution spectrometer in order to determine the strength of the magnetic field required for the generation of a circularly polarized x-ray laser. The spectral width was measured to be = 18 mÅ under the substantial lasing condition. The magnetic field required for the generation of a circularly polarized x-ray laser was 40 T. The splitting of the x-ray laser line was clearly obtained under 15 T external magnetic field. The strength of the magnetic field estimated from the splitting of the x-ray laser line was large compared with the external magnetic field. It implies that there might be an alternative mechanism for enhancement of the magnetic field in the gain medium plasma.
