Analysis of RC walls with a mixed formulation frame finite element

Afsin Saritas,Filip C. Filippou 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2013 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.12 No.4

This paper presents a mixed formulation frame element with the assumptions of the Timoshenko shear beam theory for displacement field and that accounts for interaction between shear and normal stress at material level. Nonlinear response of the element is obtained by integration of section response, which in turn is obtained by integration of material response. Satisfaction of transverse equilibrium equations at section includes the interaction between concrete and transverse reinforcing steel. A 3d plastic damage model is implemented to describe the hysteretic behavior of concrete. Comparisons with available experimental data on RC structural walls confirm the accuracy of proposed method.

Development of dental charts according to tooth development and eruption for Turkish children and young adults

Karadayi, Beytullah,Afsin, Huseyin,Ozaslan, Abdi,Karadayi, Sukriye Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology 2014 Imaging Science in Dentistry Vol.44 No.2

Purpose: In this study, we aimed to develop dental charts for Turkish children and young adults of both genders within the age group of 4.5-22.5 years according to tooth mineralization and eruption in a format similar to that proposed by AlQahtani et al. Materials and Methods: In total, 753 digital panoramic radiographs from 350 males and 403 females were assessed. The permanent teeth were evaluated according to the classification system described by Demirjian et al. The eruption stage was assessed with Bengston's system, which was modified by AlQahtani et al at four points. Results: Teeth generally developed earlier in females than in males. This was particularly notable in the age group of 5-14 years. However, this difference was usually visible in only one stage, not in all teeth. It has been determined that the mixed dentition period ended with the shedding of the second deciduous molars in both genders. Conclusion: The dental charts presented here included information that could be beneficial to dental clinicians in making appropriate diagnosis and planning orthodontic and surgical procedures. These charts also provided datasets for preliminary dental age estimation in Turkish children and young adults.

Molecular identification of fruit bats, natural host of Nipah virus in Bangladesh, based on DNA barcode

        Md. Maharub Hossain Fahim,Walid Hassan,Afia Afsin,Md. Mahfuzur Rahman,Md. Tanvir Rahman,임상진,Oh Yeonsu,박영철,Hossain Md. Faruquee,Md. Mafizur Rahman 한국생태학회 2024 Journal of Ecology and Environment Vol.48 No.2

Background: Fruit bats are natural carriers of Nipah virus (NiV ). The primary objective of this study is to identify potential reservoir species in a selected geographic regions. It is necessary to determine an accurate species identification of the associated reservoir bat species distributed in a specific region. Results: In this study, we collected 20 different bat specimens from the NiV-prone area of the Kushtia district. Among these, 14 were tissue samples (BT-1–14) and six were fecal sam- ples (BF-1–6). We used the mitochondrial gene cytochrome b, one of the most abundant and frequently used genetic markers, for polymerase chain reaction amplification and se- quencing. Out of the 20 samples, 12 tissue samples and 2 fecal samples were successfully amplified and sequenced. However, two tissue samples and four fecal samples yielded chimeric sequences, rendering them unsuitable for annotation. The sequences of the suc- cessfully amplified samples were compared to those deposited in the National Center for Biotechnology Information database using basic local alignment search tool to identify the bat specimen collected. The study identified six different bat species using both morpho- logical and genetic data, which may carriers of the NiV. Conclusions: Our results suggest that additional research should be conducted to gath- er more information on fruit bats from different localities across the country. The study contributes to the establishment of appropriate measures for NiV carrying disease control and management.

Design of a Fuzzy Logic-based MPPT Controller for a PV System Employing Sensorless Control of MRAS-based PMSM

Abbas Mahmood Oghor Anwer,Fuad Alhaj Omar,Ahmet Afsin Kulaksiz 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2020 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.18 No.11

The permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) are widely employed in industrial, robotic, water pumping and HVAC applications due to their numerous benefits such as small size, high-energy efficiency, high performance, low inertia and the ability to operate in full load at low speeds. In case the PMSM drive system is supplied from photovoltaic (PV) modules, it can be a perfect match for water pumping or HVAC applications. In such a system, in order to extract full energy from PV modules, a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm must be employed. This article presents a PV system-fed PMSM drive system with sensorless speed control. The proposed system consists of two main parts. The first part deals with MPPT algorithm based on fuzzy logic controller and the second part deals with PMSM drive system with a sensorless speed estimator by using Model Reference Adaptive System (MRAS) approach to eliminate the use of an encoder. The operation of PMSM is accomplished by using the vector control method to obtain a similar dynamic of the DC motor. The overall system is modelled in Matlab/Simulink environment and simulation results are collected under various operating conditions.
