Depth edge detection by image-based smoothing and morphological operations

Since 3D measurement technologies have been widely used in manufacturing industries edge detection in a depth image plays an important role in computer vision applications. In this paper, we have proposed an edge detection process in a depth image based on the image based smoothing and morphological operations. In this method we have used the principle of Median filtering, which has a renowned feature for edge preservation properties. The edge detection was done based on Canny Edge detection principle and was improvised with morphological operations, which are represented as combinations of erosion and dilation. Later, we compared our results with some existing methods and exhibited that this method produced better results. However, this method works in multiframe applications with effective framerates. Thus this technique will aid to detect edges robustly from depth images and contribute to promote applications in depth images such as object detection, object segmentation, etc.
Functioning of self-help groups in India: Members’ perceptions of key issues

Self-help group-bank linkage program is considered a powerful tool for eradicating poverty in many poor and developing countries, especially in Asia. The number of these groups has increased rapidly during the last few years; however, their efficacy to achieve long-term poverty alleviation has been questioned by many researchers. Previous studies have focused mainly on objective indicators to understand the program’s impact on the lives of its members, such as changes in the economic condition and the development of conceptual frameworks. The present study primarily focuses on member perceptions of the overall functioning of the self-help group. A questionnaire survey was administered to 15 presidents and 75 group members belonging to 15 self-help groups with active bank accounts in Chandigarh, a union territory of India. Drawing on their responses and perceptions, the five major problems faced by these groups were identified as: (i) ineffective group meetings, (ii) absence of income-generating activities, (iii) lack of cooperation among members, (iv) lack of awareness, and (v) minimal savings. Our key recommendations include: (i) increased organizational support, (ii) focus on skill development, (iii) training and motivation, (iv) effective leadership, and (v) regular meetings.

This paper proposes a vision-based shadow gesture recognition method for interactive projection system. Gesture recognition method is based on the screen image obtained the web camera installed in the same position as the projector. Recognition method separates only the shadow area by combining the binary image with learning algorithm isolated background from the input image. The region of interest is set by labeling the shadow of separated regions, and then it can isolate hand shadow using defect, convex-hull and moment of each region. To distinguish hand gestures, Hu’s invariant moment method is used. In addition, we have used the multiscale retinex algorithm to solve the problem that camera cannot recognize the gesture in bright place. Optical Flow algorithm is used for tracking the fingertip and OpenGL is used for representing the result of drawing.

LinkedIn is one of the most job hunting and career-growing applications in the world. There are a lot of opportunities and jobs available on LinkedIn. According to statistics, LinkedIn has 738M+ members. 14M+ open jobs on LinkedIn and 55M+ Companies listed on this mega-connected application. A lot of vacancies are available daily. LinkedIn data has been used for the research work carried out in this paper. This in turn can significantly tackle the challenges faced by LinkedIn and other job posting applications to improve the levels of jobs available in the industry. This research introduces Text Processing in natural language processing on datasets of LinkedIn which aims to find out the jobs that appear most in a month or/and year. Therefore, the large data became renewed into the required or needful source. This study thus uses Multinomial Naïve Bayes and Linear Support Vector Machine learning algorithms for text classification and developed a trained multilingual dataset. The results indicate the most needed job vacancies in any field. This will help students, job seekers, and entrepreneurs with their career decisions

This study investigated the restorative effect of Leea macrophylla ethanol root extract (LMERE) in carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) induced hepatic injury. It also tried to unfold the underlying mechanism through ligand-receptor interactions. Prior to conduct the CCl4 induced animal model study, the in vitro antioxidative capacities of LMERE were investigated. Gas chromatography mass spectroscopy (GC–MS) was accomplished to identify the prevalent bioactive compounds. The molecular docking was performed using Schrödinger Suites 2017-1. Results showed the promising antioxidative potentials of LMERE in in vitro models. Upon treatment of CCl4 intoxicated animals with LMERE, serum ALT and AST were found to be significantly (p < 0.05) reduced compared to the CCl4 control while LMERE50 was noted as the best dose in restoring the hepatic markers. Serum lipids and total protein were significantly restored compared to control. Remarkable changes of cell necrosis, apoptosis and sinusoidal dilution were noticed in histopathological assay of liver tissue. mRNA expression for superoxide dismutase (SOD1) and catalase was multifold increased which are statistically significant compared to reference drug, silymarin. In docking study, octadecanoic acid showed the lowest binding energy and highest binding affinity with the protein (ID: 1VKX) which is a crystallized structure of NF-κB p50/p65 heterodimer involved in cytokine production. The findings demonstrate that LMERE restores the hepatic damage by the mRNA expression of antioxidative enzymes while LMERE50, at a glance, seems the most suitable dose.

Recent research in the marine and automotive industries has been trying to apply Augmented Reality (AR). AR is used to display 3D CAD model of part or module on the 2D image captured by camera. Augmented CAD model helps mechanics to improve their work efficiency and safety by displaying specific information of part (procedure, size, position, finished product, etc.) and instructions etc. In this paper, we applied AR to marine industry, especially ship block. To augment 3D CAD model of ship block on 2D input image, ship block should be detected from 2D input image. The HSV color space and Mean shift image segmentation is used to detect ship block and by using Hough transform the lines of detected ship block are obtained. In addition, 3D CAD model is used to construct training set with known pose. By comparing training set and detected lines of input image, we obtained initial pose of the ship block. Because initial pose is not exact, more exact pose of ship block is found using Lie groups. Finally we can augment 3D CAD model on 2D input image with known camera’s intrinsic parameters and obtained pose of ship block which is same to camera’s extrinsic parameters.
