Comparative study of the Ag/PVP nanocomposites synthesized in water and in ethylene glycol

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>We report direct synthesis of Ag/PVP nanocomposites using PVP (polyvinylpyrrolidone) as a reducing agent. Ag/PVP nanocomposites were synthesized after mixing PVP with acetone and a small amount of aqueous silver nitrate (AgNO<SUB>3</SUB>) under magnetic stirring. The Ag/PVP colloids were then dissolved in water (sample 1) and in ethylene glycol (sample 2) and stirred for 10 days. UV/vis spectra show surface plasmon band in the visible region, centered at wavelengths between 435 and 445nm, a clear consequence of the nano size of dilute Ag particles. TEM results showed that the Ag/PVP nanocomposites have particle sizes ranging from 1 to 6nm and 1 to 12nm for colloids in water and ethylene glycol respectively. Antibacterial activity of these silver nanocomposites as a function of particles concentration against gram-negative bacterium <I>Escherichia coli</I> (<I>E. coli</I>) was carried out in solid growth media. Both the nanocomposites showed good antibacterial activity and caused a growth delay of <I>E. coli</I> with zone of inhibition ∼16mm. There was very little difference between antibacterial activities of two types of silver nanocomposites, though sample 1 with smaller size showed a slightly better antibacterial action.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P><P>► Ag nanocomposites were synthesized in water and ethylene glycol with solution chemistry method. ► The Mean diameter was found to be 3.4 and 5.3 nm for water and in ethylene glycol. ► Characteristic absorption peak was found to be 435 and 445 nm in water and ethylene glycol. ► The zone of inhibition for the two types of nanocomposites was almost similar (16 mm). ► Nanocomposites in water with smaller size showed a slightly better antibacterial action.</P>

Decision Support Systems (DSS) is an Information Systems (IS) application that aids in decision-making processes for many business concepts and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) is one of them and it depends on the firm's tasks for developing and retaining customers while achieving their satisfaction and enhancing the sense of belongingness for their products and services. Profit maximization, the process of customer value, and building strategic values for the firm are the three empirical benefits of CRM that are achieved through analytical, operational, and direction (AOD) capabilities respectively. This research focuses on the application of DSS models of what-if analysis (WIA) for CRM at (AOD) and also shows the dependence on the Information Success model (ISM). Hypothetical data are analyzed for (AOD) by three types of (WIA) to attain CRM and profit maximization and this analytical method can be used by any customer-oriented firm as a general model and for the purpose of the study we have compared the CRM between patients and hospital management.

This is an extended paper explaining the role of E-learning and quality development in the current situation. Amid Covid:19, E-Learning has achieved a new miles stone in imparting education and all levels of institutions have transformed their learning platform from face to face to virtual learning. In this scenario E-Learning is facing two major challenges, first to ensure the ability of computer systems or software to exchange and make use of information on virtual platform (interoperability) and secondly, developing quality learning through e-Learning. To impart learning and teaching (L&T) through E-learning, Middle East University (MEU) has adopted Learning Management Services (LMS) through Blackboard. The university has three types of L&T methods; full online, Blended and Supportive. This research studies the concept, scope and dimensions of interoperability (InT) of E-Learning in MEU then the connection and interdependence between with quality development. In this paper we have described the support and the importance of finest standards and specifications for the objectives of InT of E-Learning and quality development in MEU. The research is based principally on secondary data observed from MEU E-Learning deanship. Also sample of 20 E-Learning experts at MEU were given closed ended as well as semi closed questionnaires for evaluating the assurance of InT of E-Learning and quality development. These experts are mainly certified online facilitators and admin staff. Results provide the verification of application and presence of InT of E-Learning and assured the quality development process in MEU.

This is an extended research paper focusing on the applications of Machine Learing and Artificial Intelligence in virtual learning environment. The world is moving at a fast pace having the application of Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in all the major disciplines and the educational sector is also not untouched by its impact especially in an online learning environment. This paper attempts to elaborate on the benefits of ML and AI in E-Learning (EL) in general and explain how King Khalid University (KKU) EL Deanship is making the best of ML and AI in its practices. Also, researchers have focused on the future of ML and AI in any academic program. This research is descriptive in nature; results are based on qualitative analysis done through tools and techniques of EL applied in KKU as an example but the same modus operandi can be implemented by any institution in its EL platform. KKU is using Learning Management Services (LMS) for providing online learning practices and Blackboard (BB) for sharing online learning resources, therefore these tools are considered by the researchers for explaining the results of ML and AI.

This is an extended paper, focusing on the cost management for the organizations dealing with the crucial issues of security systems. Information Technology (IT) is an important and irreplaceable need of society and all working sector's success depends on IT to a greater extent; therefore maintaining security features is one of the most important aspects of IT. When security in the IT sector is discussed, Patch Management (P.Mgnt) has to be taken under account. P. Mgnt includes many concerns and areas to be described for IT security such as methods and problems in updating patch, methods of reducing security risks with P.Mgnt, methods of achieving economies of scale by controlling the operational costs and taking decisions in investing as and when necessary. This paper presents a general definition of Patch management, its benefits and management of working cost through theoretical models, also the paper gives methods of feeding techniques for microstrip patch antenna MPA, showing the contracting and non contracting methods.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>We report a simple one step microwave irradiation method for the synthesis of gold nanoparticles using citric acid as reducing agent and cetyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) as binding agent. The reaction was completed under two different microwave irradiation times (40 s and 70 s) for the production of two types of gold nanoparticles. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized using UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) measurements. UV–Vis study revealed the formation of gold nanoparticles with surface plasmon absorption maxima at 590 and 560 nm for 40 and 70 s irradiation time respectively. From TEM analysis, it is observed that the gold nanoparticles have spherical shape with particle size distribution in the range 1–10 nm and 1–2 nm for 40 s and 70 s irradiation time respectively. Antibacterial activity of gold nanoparticles as a function of particle concentration against gram-negative bacterium <I>Escherichia coli</I> (<I>E. coli</I>) was carried out in solid growth media. The two types of gold nanoparticles show high antibacterial activity with zone of inhibition of about 22 mm against <I>E. coli</I> (ATCC 25922 strain). Very small difference in the antibacterial activity for the two types of gold nanoparticles were observed. Though nanoparticles synthesized for 70 s irradiation time show slightly better antibacterial activity.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P><P>► Gold nanoparticles have been successfully synthesized using microwave irradiation technique. ► The mean diameter was ∼ 4.05 nm for 40 s and ∼1.05 nm for 70 s. ► Characteristic absorption peak was found to be 590 nm for 40 s and 560 nm for 70 s. ► The zone of inhibition for the two types of nanoparticles was almost similar (22 mm). ► Smaller size nanoparticles synthesized for 70s showed a slightly better antibacterial action.</P>
