The Easterlin Paradox refers to the fact that income has a positive impact on the Subjective Well-Being(SWB), but beyond a certain income threshold (a saturation point) increased income does not correlate with increased SWB. A plethora of studies have investigated such a paradoxical phenomenon at the individual level. However, it has been unknown whether or not this paradox still exists at the regional level. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there is a saturation point at which higher income no longer has an effect on the SWB at the regional level as well as at the individual level using the Korean Labor and Income Panel Survey(KLIPS). The main finding is that when regional income grows beyond a certain point the corresponding increase in average regional SWB is limieted, indicating a strong evidence of a saturation point at the regional level.
