A metal-dielectric nanostructure surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrate composed of a photonic crystal (PC) and SiO2-Ag “post-cap” nanostructure was proposed for obtaining the additional SERS enhancement due to the guided mode resonance effect of PC structure. Since the closely located metal nanostructure deteriorate the resonance effect of PC, a balance must be achieved between locating the metal nanoparticles too close to the surface while still positioning them within the enhanced evanescent field to maximize coupling to surface plasmons. In this study, to maximize the SERS enhancement factor, the effects of the distance between the dielectric optical resonator and the metal nanoparticles as well as the size of the metal nanoparticles on the coupling efficiency were examined using simulation and experimental methods.

A method to fabricate bilayer wire grid polarizer (B-WGP) by nanoreplication and metal vapor deposition was proposed for a simpler and a less costlier fabrication method for the reflective polarizer. We fabricated B-WGP composed of UV-replicated 80nm pitch nanograting structure and E-beam evaporated 50㎚ thick aluminium layer. To examine the performance of the fabricated B-WGP structure, the transmission spectra of TE- and TM- polarized light, and the extinction ratio spectra were measured and compared with the simulated spectra.
