This study was conducted to investigate how visitors’ satisfaction with facilities influences their revisiting intentions to mountainous national parks. The survey was conducted with 7,797 national park visitors during 2002-2006. The results were as follows: location of parking lot(β = .238, p<.01), location of toilets(β = .175, p<.01), safety of trails(β = .285, p<.01), length of environment interpretative trail courses(β = .212, p<.01) and safety of environmental interpretive trails(β = .173, p<.01) were significant contributors to revisiting intentions to the national parks. In addition, the variables of maintenance of trail facilities such as handrails and safety guards(β = .124, p<.10) and handrail installation for safety(β = .125, p<.10) also had a significant effect on revisiting intention. The findings of this study confirm that satisfaction level of utilizing facilities in national parks is an important predictor and key determinant of revisiting intention. Although most past studies focused on specific national parks, this study analyzes the relationships between visitors’ satisfaction with utilizing facilities and intentions to revisit the fourteen mountainous national parks of Korea. The results of this study may be useful to provide useable knowledge in designing strategies that will develop future plans in and around the parks and surrounding communities.

The purpose of this study was to identify the underlying dimensions of push and pull motivators for Soraksan, Kayasan, Naejangsan, and Pukhansan national parks in mountain regions. This study also examined the nature and extent of the reciprocal relationship between the push and pull factors. The result showed that four dimensions were derived from 12 push items, which were cultural and natural experience, escape and rest, health, and socialization and novelty motivators. Three dimensions also were derived from 12 pull items, which were facilities and culture, nature, and accessibility. The push and pull dimensions were correlated and regressed against each other. Given the nature of relationship between the push and pull factors, facilities and culture pull factor was affected by the cultural and natural experience motivation. Nature pull factor had strongly associated with culture and nature, escape and rest, health, and socialization and novelty motivations. Finally, accessible attraction pull factor had a positive relationship with health motivator, however, had a negative with cultural and natural experiencing motivation.

Successful hosting of mesa-events such as the universiade games usually brings many external changes such as more domestic and foreign travelers, image improvement of the host country and region as well as promotion of the local economy through improving the infrastructure for the contest. This longitudinal study analyzed the effects of the winter universiade games, which were held at Muju in 1997, on the hosting rural area, based upon a multidimensional study. As a result, the inhabitants sensed that hosting the winter universiade games had large-scale investment effects on both the tourism industry and the regional development. On the other hand, hosting this kind of event was not quite successful in terms of activating the local economy, and the environment of Togyusan National Park was harmed.

The term `greenways` is a fairly new one. The term greenways refer to linear corridors which set aside pieces of nature. The objective of this study was to find out the feasibility of developing greenways in Taegu. Sample of 446 trail users were asked to describe their use patterns and as well as their perceptions of the benefits and problems associated with trails through on-site interviews conducted during the months of July and August of 1999. Trail users in Taegu were predominately male(61%) and over half of the respondents used private vehicle to access to the study areas as compared to 2% of respondents used bicycle. Trail users responded that health & fitness and open space preservation were the two most important benefits, and the provision of trail access to disabled persons was ranked last. As problems at study areas, lack of interpretive information was the biggest problem followed by lack of drinking water, poor trail marking/signs and not enough information. Most(94.1%) of the trail users surveyed indicated that they would support greenways development and 96.8% of respondent would use after greenways development. Willingness to pay for developing greenways was assessed with hypothetical scenario. Average willingness to pay in the survey was 10,200 won as a tax. The development/application of greenways in Taegu would work best when establish a network of trails with environmentally sensitive manner.
