This study analyzed elementary school textbooks that are being used under the 7th Educational Curriculum to see if the vocabulary items appropriate for learning. It focused on the following items: the number of the basic words used; the number of new words for each lesson; the frequency and distribution rate of each word and intervals in which the same words appear. The results of the analysis were as follows; first, in terms of reflection rate of basic words, it can be said that the textbooks of 3rd and 4th grades fully cover the basic words whereas the textbooks of 5th and 6th grades fail to reflect them sufficiently. Second, the distribution of new words per lesson was irregular and uneven in all four textbooks. Third, word frequency is low in all grades except the 3rd grade. Fourth, low distribution rate of words is able to cause potential problems. Fifth, the intervals of repetition for each word were quite regular, but the vast majority of words were used only once through all texts. These aspects imply that learners might have some difficulties in vocabulary learning, and teachers have to guide learners carefully as a result.
