ToensurethesafetyofthecitizensofDaeguwithrespecttodrinkingwatersources,wecontinuouslymonitoredtracepollutantsintheNakdongRiverbasin.Perfluorinatedcompounds(PFCs)hadbeendetectedintheNakdongRiverpreviously;thus,furtherlow-concentrationdetectionisrequired.WedevelopedanLC-MS/MSanalysismethodusingtheonlineSPEapproachforfastandsimpledetectionoflow-concentrationPFCs.Inthisprocess,adelaycolumnwasusedtoassessPFCcontamination.Asaresult,qualitycontrolanalysisofeightstandardPFCsusingthismethodshowedstrongcorrelations,withcorrelationcoefficientsof0.991andmore,andthelimitofquantificationwas0.5to1.7ng/L.TherecoveryratesofPFCsfromsamplesrangedfrom75.3%±1.23%to118.0%±1.39%,suggestingrobustnessofthismethod.AnalysesofPFCatsevensamplingpointsintheNakdongRiverbasinshowedhighPFCconcentrationsatthepointwhereeffluentfromasewagetreatmentplantwasintroduced.PFHxS,PFOA,andPFOSvalues,whichwereusedasdrinkingwatermonitoringstandardsoftreatedwaterattheDaeguadvancedwatertreatmentplant,didnotexceedthemonitoringstandards.Therefore,theseresultsdemonstratethattheestablishedmethodisappropriateasananalyticaltoolforassessinglow-concentrationPFCsindrinkingwater.
