Ha(Dong-A Univ,)<br/> ABSTRACT<br/> To investigate the method of the simultaneous reduction of Soot and NOx, we developed a new conception for dual fuel stratified injection system in a Diesel Engine.<br/> Some parts of the injection system, ie. nozzle holder, delivery vale. were remodeled to inject diesel and methanol in order from one injector. The Quantity of diesel and methanol was controled precisely by micrometers that were mounted at control lack of injection pump.<br/> The real injection Quantity ratio of dual fuel was certificated by volumetric ratio at injection Quantity experiment. We could confirm the capability that soot and NOx simultaneously were reduced by diesel-methanol stratified injection from the results of combustion and exhaust characteristic.<br/>

In order to develop a new concept of ignition system, we observed the characteristics obtained from the ignition and combustion experiments where each of two kinds of ignition devices were introduced into the visualized engine and a constant volume combustion chamber with sub-chamber. The conclusion from the observation can be summarized as follows: 1) The ignitability limit for HIS expands wider and the combustion is more stable than for CDI 2) The combustion duration and ignition timing depends upon the distribution of local mixture density in the vicinity of ignition spark plug.<br/>

It is a necessary condition to control the precise air-fuel ratio with real time for the stability of lean burn including transient operating condition as well as other factors as flow of mixture and ignition energy in SI engine.<br/> This study aims to development of software and hardware such as the engine control system and interface. Real time control system is introduced and its characteristics are tested in SI engine. The real time control system was applied to SI engine and the results are shown.<br/>

Many experimental srodies have been conducted to reduce soot in diesel engine, gas turbine and combustor using liquid fuel over a long period of time. However. these stUdies treated spary combustion only in macroscopic point of view. Therefore. the effects of combustion conditions. such as, droplet number density, combustion chamber temperarure distribUtion etc., on soot formation and oxidization process are not sufficiently known yet. In this experimental stUdy, the data concerned with the soot formation and oxidization from the combustion of free fuel droplet array ejected into high temperarure air stream are obtained by tWo color method. aiming to show the effects of environmental temperarure, droplet spacing and cetane number etc.. From this experirnemal srody, the effects of temperarure of environmental gas, droplet flame, droplet diameter, cetane number on the soot formation and oxidization mechanism are discussed.

N/A This paper is study on simultaneous reduction of NOx and soot for direct injection diesel engine using high and low cetane fuels. The stratified injection system was applied for diesel engine to use high and low cetane fuel. In this study, diesel fuel was used as high cetane fuels, methanol was used as low cetane fuels. Some parts of the injection system, ie. Nozzle holder, delivery vale, was remodeled to inject dual fuel sequentially from one injector. The real injection quantity ratio of dual fuel was certificated by volumetric ratio at injection quantity experiment. According as concentration of low cetane fuel was varied, combustion experiment was performed using Toroidal and Complex chamber. Also, exhaust gas and fuel consumption were measured at the same time. Simultaneous reduction of NOx and soot was achieved at complex chamber regardless of concentration of low cetane fuel. However, according as concentration of low cetane fuel was increased, THC and CO was increased.

This paper describes a case study on dynamic stiffness analysis of a 5-axes multi-tasking machine tool. Dynamic stiffness is one of important factors regarding to machine tool accuracy. Dynamic stiffness, in this study, were obtained by using both FEM analysis and an experimental dynamic stiffness test, that is a random excitation test by using a hydraulic exciter. Both the theoretical and experiment analysis results showed good agreement with each other. Finally, some discussion and review from the view point absolute dynamic stiffness were made based on the analysis results.
