In this paper a virtual resistance selection for flying start of a PMSG-based wind energy conversion system(WECS) was proposed. In the WECS, when the wind turbine rotates at a certain speed or more, the power converter start to generating. Therefore, when sensorless is applied, a technique for estimating the correct rotor speed and position is required. The virtual resistance is applied to estimate the speed and position of the rotor, and the flying start of the sensorless PMSG-based wind energy conversion system is performed. The validity of the proposed method was verified through PSIM simulation.
