지난 20여 년간 중국대학에서의 한국어교육은 급속히 성장하였다. 한중수교 당시 5개교에만 있던 한국어학과가 최근에는 250여개의 대학에 설치되었다. 중국대학의 외국어 교육에 있어서, 한국어는 영어, 일본어 다음으로 세 번째의 위치를 차지하게 되었다. 이러한 양적인 성장은 많은 문제를 낳기도 하였다. 자격 있는 교원의 부족, 알맞은 교재의 필요, 교육수준의 질적인 제고, 한국어 교육과 함께 한국학 또는 한국문화에 대한 교육의 필요 등이 제기되었다. 이 글은 비교적 역사가 짧은 산동성S대학과 강소성C대학의 한국어학과에서 진행되는 교육과정을 중심으로 학생들의 학습동기, 한국문화의 매력, 학생들의 어려움 등을 알아보고자 하였다. 한국어 전공 학생들은 어린 시절부터 한국의 대중문화에 크게 영향을 받았다. 한국어 전공을 자발적으로 선택한 학생은 전체의 반 정도이지만, 공부하면서 한국어와 한국문화의 매력을 느끼게 된다. 이들은 졸업 후 한국계 기업 또는 한국과 거래하는 현지회사들에 취업할 예정이다. 산동성S대학의 4학년 학생 중 반정도의 학생이 한국에 유학하려는 생각을 가지고 있다. 두 대학 공히 모두 자격 있는 교원부족의 문제, 알맞은 교재의 필요, 교육 내용의 다양화 문제 등을 지니고 있다. 중국대학에서의 한국어 교육은 양적으로는 조정기에 들어서고 있으며, 질적인 면에서 한층 제고되어야 하는 과제를 가지고 있다. Since more than twenty years, the education of Korean language in the universities in China have been increased in extremely rapid pace. In 1992 only five universities had department of Korean language and recently over 250 universities and colleges have Korean language education. Korean education is ranked in the third place after English and Japanese education in foreign language teaching in universities in China. The abrupt increase of quantity in Korean department have brought about many problems: the lack of qualified teachers and good textbooks, the necessity of improvement in the content and level of Korean lanuage education, and the need of teaching Korean culture and Korean studies. This article is designed to examine the practice of Korean teaching in the case of S University in Shandong Province and C University in Jiangsu Province. Chinese youth have been influenced by Korean popular culture these days. About half of the students majoring in Korean language intended to choose Korean as their first major. After having studied one or two years, they have begun to be interested in Korean culture. Most of graduates of Korean language may have opportunity to get jobs in Korean related companies or have intention to continue their graduate studies in Korea. The Korean education in Chinese universities needs quality enhancement in the aspect of teachers, textbooks, its contents, and so on. Korean public sectors and universities should do something to help Chinese universities in these domains.
