The charms of Chosun Dynasty were made for the purpose of checking the state of casting for legal coin "Sangpyung-tongbo" or to celebrate the happy events of royal family. Then they were owned preciously by the family of aristocratic class "yangban" as a mascot for decoration. The patterns casted in charms are characters, flowers and leaves, animals etc. and the meaning of them are the pray for long live, wealth, many sons etc., or the educational messages based on the Confucian ideas. This paper tries to classificate the charms according to their shapes and patterns, and analysis the symbolic images of pictorial patterns expressed in some selected charms in Chosun Dynasty. The patterns of charms showed in this paper can be used for basic data for modern designing.

Generally the forms of symbol mar3s have a tendency of simplicity and geometric patterns, but that’s not absolute. They have more various characteristics of forms. The purpose of this study is groping a potentiality of modeling the new types of symbol marts. In this study, the various characteristics of symbol marks are classified through the examples, the tendency of symbol marks in Korea are reviewed, and finally the systematic methods for planning of forms are presented.

The term "Design" is oftenly misunderstood just as producing the drawings needed by clients and by manufacturers. As a result, design process is highly ill-defined: to draw, and to redraw until satisfied in a single designer's eye. This paper reviews the traditional designs (design by craftsman and design by drawing) in terms of their design process, and points out problems of them. Based on the problems of traditional design process, it is tried to answer the question "why the new design process is needed?". It is followed by the survey of theories on the new design processes. Finally, the survey is summarized and the new design process is proposed.

Symbol mark is the most powerful visual message which represents certain group, association, event, society, and so forth. Especially, since corporations and public institutions got actively involved in the introduction of Corporate Identity Program, the importance of symbol mark is getting more recognized. This paper examines the function and types of symbol mark of which applicability is getting more heightened, and analyzes its contextual postion in terms of communication. It takes the case study as means of the study more practical, and tries to acess to the logical approach by tracing its process from the inception to the completion.

The color of package should be planned to indicate the characteristics of the commodity contents, to enhance the visual attraction, memory value, and communication effects at the point of sales. This paper tries to study the factors concerned with the color planning of package, such as images of the commodity, consumer's taste, distribution structure, and competetion in the market. And it attempts to show the process for the selection of design criteria and it's substantiation. It is also reviewed scientific methods of survey and analysis for the color planning of package i.e. "Semantic differential" and "Color image scale"
