Horse owner has to accept responsibility for the animal’s health and well-being. However, the time may come when horses will suffer injury, sickness, old age, lameness, or dangerous behaviors that will result in the trying task of deciding what is best for them. Proper disposal of underutilized horses is important. Having a plan and the necessary information regarding disposal options will help the circumstances of disposing of a horse. As survey results, preferred disposal options, in order, are burial, rendering, incineration, slaughtering. It seems horse owners are considering the costs and convenience of disposing. In contrast with current options, the future options that they prefer, in order, are incineration, livestock selling, burial, and so on. Due to the burden of incineration cost, the owners might want the role play of government. The necessary policy options are about disposal facilities of both individual and public, research and development of disposal technology, and proper institutional guideline and law after analyzing feasible resource alternatives.

This paper deals with the structural changes in pork prices of supply chain and the transaction system in pork wholesale market. In pork wholesale market, the average price of auction of Garak wholesale market, Seoul, has been represented as a standard for decentralized market transactions. However, the amount of transaction in the market has been declined with poorer quality of pork, and thus the role of the market seems to be less reliable. This compels to cast aside current grading system of pork and to find more resonable system. We examine whether structural changes for farm, wholesale, and retail prices are taken place, the adjustment process of the prices, and the causation between the prices.

For widely emerging branded pork market in Korea, the relationship between brand equity and consumer`s purchase intention becomes important with regard to changing in the market environment. This study deals with this relationship in order to verify several hypotheses and to suggest pork branding strategy to agribusiness firms.

This study considers Hanwoo wholesale market that farmers prefer to sell. In fact, the ratio of shipments among whole Hanwoo cattle to wholesale markets continues to rise and the prices of wholesale markets are different based upon the characteristics of the market. When choosing a wholesale market, farmers tend to consider the market price and grade occurrence rate. Cluster analysis is conducted to identify the wholesale markets of same characteristics in which farmers might prefer. The results of the cluster analysis can be used to identify each wholesale market groups and help farmers to make decision making which market would give more efficient transaction and better economic benefit. The result shows the Hanwoo cow group is divided into 4 clusters and the steer 3 clusters among 9 markets. K-Means cluster analysis clusters the wholesale markets by grade into four and three group, respectively. The group that has similar characteristics of the market in which farmers love to sell, and so it would be useful when farmers make a profitable selling plan in the future.

The purpose of this study is to analyse the effect of factors related to animal welfare on pig productivity in Korea. For the normal DEA and bootstrap DEA analysis, MSY was selected as the output variable and 6 items of animal welfare was selected as the input variables. As a result, the production efficiency of CCR model was 0.8613 for DEA and 0.8256 for bootstrap DEA, and the production efficiency of BCC model was 0.9140 for DEA and 0.8845 for bootstrap DEA. And the scale efficiency showed an overall average of 0.9425 for DEA (0.9354 for bootstrap DEA). In the OLS regression analysis, anmimal welfare point as an input factor had negative coefficient. In conclusion, animal welfare efforts have had little effect on MSY in hog farms in Korea yet.

Simple importance-satisfaction analysis (ISA) is an effective technique to understand consumer attitude and perception of products or services, and therefore the ISA is often applied to evaluate various attributes of foods and guide marketing strategies. This paper compares consumer attitude and perceptions of Holstein beef between conventional ISA and a revised ISA which integrates Kano’s three factor theory. Overall, the differences between the conventional and revised ISA methods are non-trivial. Results from a revised ISA suggest that the consumers place a higher value on freshness, health, hygiene, and grade among beef attributes.
