시선추적을 활용한 청년층과 노년층의 작업기억의 저장 및 처리기능 연구

배경 및 목적: 본 연구는 시선추적을 활용한 복합 작업기억 과제를 통해 노화에 따른 작업기억의 저장 및 처리기능의 손상에 대해 알아 보고자 하였다. 방법: 청년층 22명(평균연령 21.45세)과 노년층 17명(평균연령 66.94세), 총 39명이 실험에 참여하였다. 복합 작업기억 과제의 하위 과제로 저장 과제(단어기억폭 과제)와 처리 과제(문장이해 과제)를 시선추적 패러다임에 맞게 수정하여 실시하였다. 자료 분석은 정반응률과 시선고정비율을 사용하였다 결과: 두 과제 모두 노년층의 정반응률이 청년층에 비해 유의하게 낮았으며, 문장복잡성에 따른 차이가 유의하여 피동문의 정반응률이 능동문에 비해 유의하게 낮았다. 처리 과제의 정반응률에서 집단과 문장복잡성의 이차상호작용이 유의하여, 피동문에서 연령에 다른 감소폭 차이가 능동문에 비해 유의하게 큰 것으로 나타났다. 저장 과제의 시선고정비 율에서는 유의한 차이가 드러나지 않았다. 반면, 처리 과제의 시선고정비율에서 노년층의 시선고정비율이 청년층에 비해 유의하게 낮고, 피동문의 시선고정비율이 능동문에 비해 유의하게 낮았다. 논의 및 결론: 노년층의 정반응률이 청년층에 비해 유의하게 낮은 이유는 노년층이 감소된 작업기억용량으로 인해 비효율적인 처리를 했기 때문이라고 예상해 볼 수 있다. 작업기억의 처리기능이 저장기능에 비해 노화에 따른 작업기억 용량의 감소를 더욱 민감하게 증명하였으며, 이는 실시간 측정치인 시선고정비율에서도 드러났다. 처리 과제와 저장 과제의 시선고정비율 양상이 다른 것은 작업기억의 저장기능과 처리기능은 개별적인 자원을 가진다는 것을 시사한다. Objectives: The goal of this study was to explore the age-related decline in the storage and processing components of working memory in dual-tasks (storage trials and processing trials) using eye-tracking. Methods: A total of 39 participants participated in this study. Twenty-two participants were in the younger group (age, 21.45± 3.14 years) and 17 were in the elderly group (age, 66.94 ± 3.58 years). Storage items were based on a word span task. Processing items were based on a sentence comprehension task. These two trials were performed concurrently. Participants completed storage and processing trials while their eye movements were recorded using an eye-tracking device. Performance on this task was indexed (%) by scoring correct items, and proportion of fixation duration (PFD) by recording eye movement data. Results: The results showed that the elderly group demonstrated significantly less accuracy than the younger group on dual-tasks. Also, there was a significant group difference in PFD on processing trials. However, there was no significant group difference in PFD on storage trials. The results suggest that there is a greater age-related decline in processing components in comparison to the storage components of working memory. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that elderly adults have difficulty in processing components; in particular, the eye movement working memory tasks, due to a reduction in resources such as working memory capacity. The sentence complexity of processing trials did not affect the storage trials, and this suggests that the storage and processing functions of working memory have individual resources.

Ivy Lee's 1905 Declaration of Principles has been called the beginning point of modern public relations. Lee suggested our object is to supply frankly and openly to the press and public of the United States prompt and accurate information concerning subjects which is of value and interest to the public to know about (Russell, & Bishop, 2009). Since then, however, providing clients' interests or suppling accurate information to the public has been frequently becoming public relations practitioners' ethical dilemma in the real world. By appling four steps in Potter box such as fact, values, philosophical principles, and loyalty, this study examined Korean public relations practitioners' cases which they had experiences in ethical quandaries in terms of providing clients' interests legally or suppling accurate information to the public. Taken as a whole, practitioners have two philosophical principles : rule utilitarian perspective and rule deontological perspective. The various implications of this study was discussed by introducing practitioners' in-dept interviews related to four steps in Potter box.
