When a micro structure or a micro hole is machined by micro ECM or micro EDM, a taper shape occurred during machining. In the micro EDM, debris cause secondary discharge at the side of tool electrode during machining. As a result, the taper shape occurred. In the micro ECM using ultra short pulses, the machining gap increases as the machining time increases. Due to different machining time along the depth of micro structure or hole, taper shape occurred. By using insulated tool, the secondary discharge is prevented in micro EDM, and the machining area is limited in micro ECM. With this proposed method, the taper shapes can be prevented.

In this paper, novel submerged water journal & thrust bearings for a canned type electric water pump, which are crucial parts for the green cars development, has been developed. The canned type electric water, in which the cooling water is usually sealed by a can, is able to enhance fuel efficiency and reduce emission. Using analytical and numerical analyses, the journal and thrust bearings were designed and fabricated by sintering and machining of a SiC based bearing material. To improve the performance of the bearings, an in-house-level bearing testing system was developed and some preliminary wear tests are conducted for verifying the validity of the developed system.
