As various contractors have been asking BIM data in the construction industry, BIM guidelines and standards has become increasingly important these days. Above all, BIM guidelines should be established properly because it is utilized at the earliest stage of BIM data creation. However, each of the existing BIM guidelines was totally different by contractors, disciplines or phases so that it caused problems about repetitious work, inefficient management and so on. In order to overcome these problems, we suggest integrated management system for BIM guidelines. We firstly collected and analyzed existing guidelines, secondly standardized guideline phrases and lastly constructed data structure of integrated management system. This integrated management system is expected to increase work efficiency to avoid working error for designers and enable easy creation or revision of BIM guidelines for contractors.

The purpose of this study is to suggest development direction of open BIM. To achieve this purpose, the authors have investigated application status and current problems of open BIM through question survey to design firm which is introducing or plan BIM. In addition, the authors have suggested improvement way about current problems of BIM application such as BIM standard guide, reference of practical application examples, BIM library, data interoperability between software, improvement of BIM software function and performance that is deducted through question survey.

The recent introduction of BIM technology has raised the interest on the BIM quality assurance and management more than ever. This study aims to consider the ways of BIM quality improvement by analyzing the most frequent issues rising from multiple BIM projects. For this purpose, the 12 test models from BIM education program hosted by buildingSMART Korea are investigated based on the requirements in the public BIM guidelines. All the BIM issues generated are categorized by the criteria applied and analyzed for each kind of building element. The results showed that more than half of the issued at least could be cleared out by improving modeling habits and technical guides.

Value engineering (VE) is standardized and utilized in the domestic construction industry and is recognized as an official technology for cost reduction and improvement. However, for practitioners who actually perform VEs, time and space constraints make it difficult to achieve the best performance. As a result, we want to overcome the limitations of design VEs by leveraging Building Information Modeling (BIM), which is widely used in the construction industry. BIM provides an environment for creating and managing information used in a variety of fields throughout the building"s lifecycle, defining drawings and documents as outputable tools, and linking form and characteristic information. Therefore, sufficient conditional rule set elements are determined by the elements and classification of the design VE in this study, which enables continuous information storage and utilization using BIM technology for existing VE analysis processes. Based on geometry and attribute information, which is data from open BIM, multidimensional simulations are expected to be applied to future IFC models to enable efficient BIM utilization or building management beyond time and space.

Since the safety accidents on the construction sites take large part of total industry disasters, research on the construction safety has been getting important. Recently, as BIM technology allows cooperation between designer and constructor groups, it becomes more active worldwide than before to study on the ways of accomplish construction safety improvement in the design phase. In this paper, we suggested a checklist for assuring construction safety in the phase of design, and performed automatic evaluation by using a BIM quality checking tool. This shows that it is possible for us to find out the construction safety has been improved in the design phase. Once the standard checklist and assurance process are developed, they are expected to play a great role of reducing disasters in the construction industry.
