According to the results of recent full-scale tests fabricated with seismic rolled sections, it shows that in the case of identical connection types (WUF-W), the rotational capacity and dissipated energy of the newly developed seismic rolled section (SHM490) connection was larger than those of existing rolled section (SM490) connections. Both specimens fabricated with the newly developed seismic rolled section (SHN490) specimen and existing rolled section (SM490) specimen displayed similar fracture modes and fracture positions. This showed that these sections had comparable stress mechanisms. In this study, we conducted finite element analysis and analyzed the local response of steel connection beam flanges to observe differences between the newly developed seismic rolled section (SHN490) specimen and the existing rolled section (SM490) specimen.
