The wear particles are relative to the failure and the life of machine elements directly. To analyze the wear particle, its shape characteristics were calculated quantitative values such as diameter and roundness by digital image processing. In this study, the relative histograms of shape parameters of wear particles were used for the purpose of analyzing the distribution of wear particles in various conditions. We consider that the relative histogram of shape parameters can be effectively represented to study a wear mechanism.

In general, a brake system of axle for heavy duty machine as a wheel excavator makes use of wet-type multiple disk brakes. These disk bakes are very important parts of heavy duty machine because they are advanced in durability and braking power, and can be designed compactly. Thus, we designed and made wet-type multiple disk brakes of axle for the 14ton class wheel excavator to be localization of these imported all. These disk brakes were made a comparative test with the existing disk brakes by the SAE No.2 dynamometer, and the friction characteristics as dynamic and static friction coefficient and wear depth of friction paper were measured.

The fractal dimension is quantitatively to define the irregular characteristic of the shape in natural. It can be useful in describing morphological characteristics of various wear particles. This paper was undertaken to diagnose failure condition for sliding members in lubrication by fractal dimension. It will be possible to diagnose wear mechanism, friction and damage state of machines through analysis of shape characteristics for wear particle on driving condition by fractal parameters. In this study, the calculating and analyzing methods of fractal dimensions were constructed for the condition monitoring and wear particle analysis in lubricant condition. So, we carried out the Friction and wear test with the ball on disk type tester, and the fractal parameters of wear particle in lubricated conditions were calculated. Fractal parameters were defined as texture fractal dimension(Dt), structure fractal dimension(Ds) and total fractal dimension(D).

Hydraulic servo cylinders have been used to control accurately a large machine in power plant. Especially, Piston head and bush of cylinder is assembled sleeve and piston rod made of Cu alloy and pad sealing part. A damages of sleeve and bush are caused by wear, and outflow hydraulic fluid and affect that life time is decreased. Thus, It is necessary to examine friction characteristics of Cu alloys for the piston head and bush. In this study, to be reliable on the piston and cylinder parts, dry friction and wear experiments were carried out with Cu alloys of four kinds of AlEC, PBC, BC and BS using reciprocating friction of pin on disk type. The result was that the AlEC and PBC alloys were excellent to resistance wear.
선박 엔진의 실린더 라이너의 손상 진단을 위한 신경회로망의 적용

Marine diesel engines operate in environments in which damage easily occurs from corrosion. Recently, damage to cylinder liners has increased from corrosion wear caused by increased engine power. This damage can cause serious problems in the economy. Thus, many researchers have treated and studied damaged cylinder liners. However, a method is necessary for real-time monitoring of damage to cylinder liners during operation of the engine, before serious damage can occur. This study carries out reciprocating friction and wear tests on a cast iron specimen under various corrosion atmospheres and verifies the variations of friction coefficient and friction surface. Additionally, the friction coefficient and friction status are predicted by using a neural network that learns the vibration and frequency spectrum data from an acceleration sensor. According to our conclusions, amplitude is distributed highly at high frequencies, and values of standard deviation and kurtosis are high when damage to the friction surface is serious. The accuracy rate of the friction coefficient predicted by the neural network is over 80% of the real measured value without NaCl, and application of the neural network is very effective for diagnosing the friction condition and damage to the cylinder liner.

To analyze a variation of distributed characteristics of wear particles on moving conditions, its shape parameters such as diameter and roundness were calculated the quantitative values by digital image processing, and had to be defined the effective method of using those data. Up to the present, the shape parameters have been used simply into the average values. But these values are not effective to analyze a variation of distributed characteristics of occurred wear particles on moving conditions. In this study, the relative histograms of shape parameters of wear particles were used for the purpose of analyzing the distribution of wear particles in various conditions. The results showed that the relative histogram of shape parameters can be effectively represented to study a wear mechanism.
