On the ground of that toy as for infants is an important tool for education as well as play and furthermore it has a great influences on their growth and development, the present study intends to analyze the characteristics of the infant-oriented toys made of wood, the environment-friendly material. Object of the study includes the infants aged 2 to 7, and the wooden toy not only in domestic also international cases are investigated and analyzed from the point of function and design in particular, and the infant-oriented wooden toy is finally characterized. The wooden toys are classified in 5 items according to functions. There are toy helping a physical development like small muscles, toy improving the creativity, toy assisting language learning like Korean & English, toy contributing to number understanding and counting, and toy for imitation of social roles. The characteristics of the wooden toy are that the natural color & grain of wood are shown first, and also the natural texture & aroma of wood are felt secondly, and geometric design and shape are often presented thirdly, and recycling is available fourthly, and it is expensive finally. In order to revitalize the wooden toys lagging behind the cheap and diverse toys made of plastic, it is highly needed that development of the environment-friendly painting, unique design, marketing strategy of enterprises and use of domestic wood material.

This article was intended as fundamental materials to recognize the current status of furniture hard ware in Korean market and to fix the identity of Korean furniture, by investigating and comparing the furniture hard ware used in the Joseon era and in modern times by type, function, shape and material. The analysis of furniture hard ware of the Joseon era and modern times from the view of functional aspects was oriented to the hard ware necessary to open and close the door & drawer on one side, and to that being attached to the main body of furniture not to scratch the wood by another wood on the other side, and from this the following conclusion was drawn. First of all, “Gwangdoojung” - a kind of spike- and metal decoration on the edge of the furniture disappeared, while the function-oriented hard wares have been diversified in modern times, from the perspective of the change of kinds. Second, the functional aspect of the furniture hard ware was emphasized in modern times than the Joseon era. In other words, the hard wares of the Joseon era came into view due to their strong appeal to decoration, whereas those of modern times were mostly hidden or moderated, keeping the function substantially. Third, the hard wares from the Joseon era were shown in concrete and detailed shape motivated by natural objects and furthermore even gloriously, but the modern hard wares are simple & basic geometry, from a formative point of view. Fourth, the material aspects present that the Joseon era’s hard ware was mainly cast iron, whereas that of modern times shows the diversification from metal to even plastic. Finally, the recent trend in naming of the hard wares is the words of foreign origin. This resulted from that the foreign names of hard wares are valid also after import process in Korean market, so the domestic development of hard ware as the essential factor for the furniture design is urgently necessary to establish the identity of Korean modern furniture.

가정용 가구의 색채에 관한 소비자 연구

The survey of consumers’ recognition of home furniture colors was conducted targeting 32 males and 68 females from 20’s to 60’s. The results are as follows. The first, in terms of colors, when they were asked of where was the most important place in a house, the first place they thought of was the color of wallpaper and the second was the color of furniture. The second, in terms of home furniture colors, a sofa was put the most importance on and a living room dresser was the next. The third, they preferred natural wood color as home furniture and the next color was achromatic colors. The forth, the most preferred wood color was a walnut and the next was a ginkgo tree color. The fifth, the most preferred color was white and the next was tertiary colors when they were asked to paint their home furniture. The sixth, 88% participants in the survey responded that home furniture colors would much influence on our lives. In conclusion, most consumers recognize the importance of furniture colors and they prefer the use of hardwood for a natural feeling as long as they can afford.

채색기법을 활용한 야외벤치 리폼개발 연구

This study is a development plan to reform the park benches using coloring method which are located at the Forest Grand Park (Soorimdaegongwon) with the address of Mook-dong, Jungrang-gu in Seoul where the Rose Festival yearly takes place, at the request of Jungrang-gu Office in Seoul. The case studies of reform design using coloring were investigated through literature review and internet, and the actual design process was applied to the field of the park benches. The coloring of benches is one of the most popular methods of extending the life span of the benches in case of the paint fallen off and/or the aged & damaged wood before their removal, and the painting should be completely conducted to keep the wood view off. According to the request from the Jungrang-gu Office, the concept was to use the echo-materials and to place the roses as the topic of the painting in consideration of the harmony with park bench’s surrounding also for a period other than the Festival and to utilize the coloring method. Students started with their sketches and the in consultation with the Jungrang-gu Office selected ideas among them have been applied to 4 park benches. The result showed however that the bench itself looked as beautiful as like the original sketch without the users, but the basically pursued image of the beautiful bench was damaged when anyone sat on the bench, because the painting was partially obscured. In case of the back of a bench therefore, the coloring on the back part should play a meaningful role as a photo zone, while the painting with a simple pattern or the coloring only would be effective in case of the bench without the back. This survey shows that the bench itself has been more photographed thanks to it’s good-looking image than when the people sat on it. In other words, we need to consider a photo zone role when making benches with the back, although the original concept did not aim it.

The study aimed at investigating the terms for each type of the current household furniture and at analyzing a standard based on those terms researched for the furniture, not including kitchen and child furniture. The study was conducted in sales and R&D division of major furniture brands such as Jang-In Gagu, Borneo, and Livart by surveying their staffs, and then, the investigated names were classified according to similar criteria and it was finally analyzed by the definite standard of the names made. In the results, the following 5 standards largely play roles for the naming. First, name according to requirements, second, construction of door, third, materials, fourth, shapes, and lastly, function. Except for the terms of “Sobari” expressed only as Japanese and “living room cabinet of Extension-type” using Korean and English along, most of the names show furniture in detail, and the names from Hangeul, Korean alphabet and from the English have recently and drastically increased with the lifestyle change influenced from Western world.

마닐라 페임을 통한 필리핀 가구 연구

The aim of the present study was to investigate and analyze a tendency of the Philippines furniture which are not well-known in Korean market yet, but have been emerging as an OEM base, through the Manila FAME 2012. The study was conducted by visiting some furniture companies in Philippines for the active understanding regarding the current status of the Philippines furniture, in consideration of the material, functional and structural aspects of the goods which were exhibited on the Manila FAME 2012. The methods of the investigation were to research the related literatures concerned and materials had been collected over the internet, to visit the Manila FAME 2012 at work and finally to visit furniture companies in Philippines. Manila FAME has been based on the DTI (DTI: Department of Trade and Industry) through CITEM (CITEM: The Center for International Trade Mission and Expositions) since 1983. The exhibition whichincludes various sorts from furniture, traditional artifacts, leisure goods, gifts, jewelry and clothes is becoming such a potent force by integrating three exhibitions such as Manila Now, CEBUNEXT and Bijoux Cebu, what all had been held before the world economic downturn. The features of the Philippines furniture shown on the Manila FAME are as follows: First, they are focusing on the maximum of function to the exclusion of the decoration and they were mostly made of various kinds of mahogany like jambilina, acacia, bamboo, wisteria and Manila hemp growing up in the Philippines indeed and finally there were a lot of the simple designs of the curved line which were exactly the material nature of the wisteria and Manila hemp.

KOFURN의 마케팅 전략

This study aims at suggesting a creative way of activating KOFURN (Korea Furniture) fair by analyzing its problem in studying its marketing strategy. The proposition is limited to the analysis of the matter for the strategy based on KOFURN’s status in 2010 with its history. Through the related references and documents, the interview with the related people in KFFIC (Korea Federation of Furniture Industry Cooperatives) that has held the KOFURN fair since 2002, and its viewing in 2010, the materials were collected. As a result, first, there is no effectiveness following participating the fair; second, its public relations on the internet is not enough; third, the furniture-related firms don’t make sure that KFFIC is able to do a good job for them; lastly, the companies, KFFIC, and consumers require better communication. Therefore, in order to resolve the four matters, first, the publicity on the internet needs to supplement creative ways of making KOFURN attract a lot of people. Second, KFFIC hosting KOFURN fair needs to offer an opportunity for the visitors to participate and experience a variety of events prepared by itself. Finally, KFFIC has necessity of building its better reliance which is able to lead the furniture-related firms by planning and carrying out various businesses with them.

뇌 병변 장애아동을 위한 책상 개발의 융복합 연구

The purpose of this study were to design and develop the user centered desk which considered children with cebral palsy in Korea. The developing process of the desk were performed the convergence study of the University Department of the Social Welfare and the Living Furniture Design. First of all, the 2 students and their professor of the Department of Social Welfare analyzed the literature, observed the children with cebral palsy and the needs survey of the service providers of a Welfare Center for children with cebral palsy. All of the information gathered were provided for the Department of the living Furniture Design. Second, the 2 students and their professor of the Department the Living Furniture Design proceeded the design concept, mocked up the desk for the children with cebral palsy. This was the user centered desk which considered of the features of children with cebral palsy body. Based on the results, the convergence study implications were discussed.
