유아와 어머니의 개인적 배경 및 어머니의 놀이참여 수준에 따른 유아의 학교준비도

The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference of children`s school readiness in terms of their mothers` play participation levels and individual characteristics. The subjects were 146 children of 5 years old and their mothers attending preschools in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Chungcheong areas. The mothers` play participation levels were evaluated by the measurement used in the previous research (Won, 1997). Children`s school readiness were assessed by 4 factors including learning related skills (Kim & Ahn, 2006), social behavior (Park & Lee, 2001), story comprehension (Han, 2006), and fine motor ability (Korea Institute for Special Education, 1994). Collected data were analysed using t-test, one way ANOVA, and Duncan post test. The results showed that the mothers with more income and higher levels of education participated more actively in their children`s play and their children`s school readiness were better, compared to the mothers with low income and educational levels. Moreover, mothers who participated actively in their children`s play were more likely to have children with higher school readiness. Finally, the importance of mothers` play participation on children`s school readiness and implications for improving children`s school readiness was discussed.
