Much signaling equipments are installed along railway tracks, and these are working in cooperation with each other, referring to other signaling equipment status. Existing railway signaling system uses signal cables to transmit this information. This system requires high cost for construction and have the problems like many faults from mistakes in cable connection, etc. To solve these problems, JREast Inc. has developed a new signaling system based on network technology, utilizing Ethernet-Passive Optical Network(E-PON). In this paper, we review the system proposed by JREast Inc. and field test results performed on railway.

The level crossing collision accident which comprises more than 90 percent of all level crossing accidents is one of the most serious safety problems. There is a critical need for providing safe strategy and is focusing on the level crossing information rather than measures at a grade crossing. This study is intended to develop technology for accident prevention and damage reduction based on accident cases analysis result and improvement direction to complement shortcomings of safety equipment of conventional level crossing and to establish safety of travelers(train, motor vehicle, person).

Recently, for positioning a train and synchronizing between equipments in railway environment, the utilization of GPS(Global Positioning System) is increasing. But, the defects of GPS are pointed out. The risk of dependence on only GPS is not neglectable. Therefore, we prepare the implementation of the future railway system through the research on the safety and reliability of applying GPS to railway system.
철도에서 DSL 모뎀을 사용한 데이터 전송에 관한 고찰

Communication line used in the rail-road have different use from subscriber line in the public telecommunication. But, when an existing communication equipment is replaced, by applying new high-speed transfer technology, we can anticipate the increase of transmission rate and decrease of waiting time according to high-speed of communication line, cost reduction of infrastructure construction and maintenance/repair according to centralization of communication line and transmission equipment. In this study, the transmission scheme of several xDSL(Digital Subscriber Line) modems were compared and analyzed. The way of applying xDSL modem to the metal cable which is used in the JR(Japan Railroad) is analyzed, In addition, the result tested in railroad communication line was reviewed.
