It is generally accepted that Korean language has no subject-verb agreement. Moreover, some of the recent studies on subject-verb agreement argue that the agreement actually does not have consistent materialization of morphemes, and that it is not an obligatory grammatical phenomenon. However, the purpose of this study was to assert that subject-verb agreement is universal. To accomplish this purpose, I attempted to provide the empirical and theoretical evidences by examining whether Japanese and Korean show any agreement between a subject and a verb, as these two languages can be regarded as the two typical agreement-less languages. This study adopted allocutive agreement of Miyagawa(2010, 2013) to investigate the φ-feature inheritance between T and C in Japanese and Korean. Consequently, this study probably proved that even the agreement-less languages like Japanese and Korean show the agreement phenomena to express politeness or allocutivity in relation to the subject or the addressee. At the end of this study, I made some suggestions for future research on how subject-verb agreement is incorporated in Korean language on the basis of a corpus of Korean sentences.
