In the platform of the urban transit system, a certain gap is inevitably made between the subway vehicle and the platform, and the gap gets wider in the curved area of the platform. This gap contributes to decrease passengers' safety. In this paper, we presents development process for safety step, trends of safety step, development plan, technical description and etc. In this study, we has considered safe operation of the subway vehicle when safety step are operated closely related to the doors, and explored the possibilities to put it into practical use.

RAMS (Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, Safety) analyses are particularly important in the railway engineering sector and are increasingly required the specialized procedures. The analysis are processed following the lifecycle process. The purpose of the RAMS application is to derive Quantitative RAMS value and to find the value meet a proposed requirement and related standards. This paper represents the RAMS procedure to apply to the EMU (Electrical Multiple Unit) based on the referenced RAMS standards.

The energy storage system is considered to be one of the useful devices for energy storing and recycling. the energy storage system can save energy cost and stabilize the system voltage. This paper presents the development of two energy storage systems. One is 750V system for light rail system. the other is 1500V system for heavy rail system.

철도승강장 모니터링시스템은 철도승강장에서 발생하는 승객 추락과 같은 위험상황을 카메라 및 영상처리기술을 통해 자동으로 검지하여 검지 결과를 운영자에게 전송함으로써 신속한 구조가 가능한 승강장 승객안전 시스템이다 하지만 최종 열차 정지시까지 일정 시간이 소요되므로 보다 신속한 사고대응을 위해서는 신호시스템과 연계하여 진입열차를 자동으로 정지 시킬 수 있는 시스템 구성이 요구된다. 본 논문은 철도승강장 모니터링시스템에 대한 시스템 개요와 진입열차 자동정지를 위한 철도신호시스템 연계방안에 대해 기술하며, 실제 시스템 현장시험 결과를 제시한다.

As a drive system for next generation train, we have been making research and development of a direct drive traction motor system without the conventional reduction gear. This traction motor is expected to have many advantages such as low noise, reduced maintenance, and energy saving. Due to the demand for high-output motors in the limited space between the wheels, open-ventilating traction motors with gear box have been widely used for many years. However, a conventional open-ventilating traction motor is necessary periodical disassembly to remove the accumulated dust from open-air ventilation. Reducing this burden, as well as increasing energy efficiency and reducing noise, would benefit the next generation of traction motors. To address these needs, KRRI have been developing a fully enclosed type direct drive motor(DDM) with high-efficiency permanent magnet for the next generation train.
