Background : Since a Gamma Knife had been installed on December 1997, 405 patients have been treated until December 1999 at department of neurosurgery of Seoul National University hospital. The authors analyzed results of a work to improve satisfaction of Gamma Knife surgery patients and to reduce hospital length of stay. Methods : To understand main discontent of patients, a pre-survey was performed from October 1998 to December 1999 using a questionnaire. By Analyzing 93 questionnaire received from 234 patients, pain on frame application, explanation before surgery, waiting time before surgery, waiting time before medical procedure were main discontent factor and overall satisfaction ratio was 71.0%. To improve satisfaction ratio, several quality improvement activity works were designed and applied to 123 patients during the period between January 2000 and September 2000. The same questionnaire were analyzed. Works to reduce the patient hospital LOS were devised and applied during the same period. Results : The overall satisfaction ratio of Gamma Knife radiosurgery patients was increased to 83.7%(P=0.10). The main factor to improve satisfaction ratio was to reduce waiting time(P=0.05) and improvement of discomfort during the surgery(P=0.06). The average LOS was reduced from 3.1 to 2.7 days(P=0.003). Conclusion : As a result of quality assurance activities, the overall satisfaction ratio of patients was improved and LOS was reduced. The pain during frame application was remained as a main discontent factor and a further study is required to reduce this pain.

2004년말 현재 국내에서 발생되는 음식물쓰레기의 재활용량은 전체 발생량의 87.7%인 10,015톤/일이며, 전체 재활용량의 6.47%인 640톤/일 정도가 혐기성소화 방법에 의해 처리 및 자원화 되고 있다. 국내에서 적용되고 있는 음식물쓰레기 혐기성소화 기술의 대부분은 습식소화(Wet digestion) 공법이며, 처리 방법별로 2상 혐기성소화(Two-phase anaerobic digestion)와 하수슬러지 흑은 축산분뇨와 함께 혼합처리 하는 통합소화(Co-digestion) 공정으로 구분되고 있다. 음식물쓰레기의 자원화 방법에 있어 혐기성소화는 사료화, 퇴비화에 비하여 폐기물의 효과적인 감량화와 자원화 효과뿐만 아니라 유용 에너지원인 메탄가스의 회수가 가능하기에 최근에 주목을 받는 biotechnology중의 하나로 자리매김 하고 있으며, 또한 유기성폐기물의 자원순환형 관리 시스템 구현에 있어 적절한 대안으로 고려되고 있다.

The effect of alkaline pre-treatment on the solubilization of waste activated sludge(WAS) was investigated, and the biodegradability of WAS, pretreated WAS, [PWAS], food waste and two types of mixture were estimated by biochemical methane potential [BMP] test at 35?C. The biodegradability of PWAS and mixture waste were significantly improved due to the effect of alkaline hydrolysis of WAS. An alkaline pre-treatment was identified to be one of the useful pre-treatment for improving biodegradability of WAS and mixture waste. In high-rate anaerobic co-digestion system coordinate with an alkaline pre-treatment in process, the digesters were operated at the HRT of 5, 7, 10 and 13 days with a mixture of FW 50%;and;PWAS;50%,;In term of CH₄ content, VS removal and specific methane production [SMP] which are the parameters in the performance of digester, the optimum operating condition was found to be a HRT of 7 days and a OLR of 4.20g/L-day with the highest SMP of 0.340 L CH₄/g VS.

Halla's pyrolysis & melting stoker incinerator developed and commercialized by a domestic technology and patent allowed is the energy-saving system. It melts down the wastes utilizing high combustion heat of homogenized carbon material and pyrolyzes the residues utilizing combustible gas heat in the pyrolysis furnace of the incinerator. It is also an advanced technology that enables the recycling of solid residues through melting and vitrification and minimizes the dioxin emission.
