Purpose: Reminiscence therapy is a widely used intervention for older adults and those with dementia. However, the attributes of the concept of reminiscence is not clearly proposed. The aim of this study was to clarify the concept of reminiscence in Korean older adults with dementia. Methods: The study applied the concept analysis method of Walker and Avant. The literature review included the previous studies of reminiscence from philosophy, literature, art, neuroscience, medicine, psychology, sociology, and nursing. Results: A total of 43 Korean or international papers were analyzed in this study. Attributes of reminiscence in Korean older adults with dementia were regeneration of memories, internal and external communications, expression of suppressed emotions, and recognition of ego identity. The suppressed emotions and ego identity may result from Korean cultural characteristics based on the suppressed environments of many wars and dictatorships in the past. The consequences of reminiscence in Korean older adults with dementia are cognitive enhancement, relief of depression, and improvements of social interactions, ego integrity, and quality of life. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that the historical and cultural characteristics should be considered to develop effective nursing interventions including reminiscence for Korean older adults with dementia.

가족부양자의 일반적 특성에 따른 사회적지지, 건강관련 삶의 질 및 부양부담감 간의 관계

본 연구의 목적은 지역사회에 거주하고 있는 치매환자 가족부양자의 일반적 특성에 따른 사회적지지, 건강관련 삶의 질 및 부양부담간의 관계를 확인하기 위함이다. 연구방법: 본 연구는 치매환자 가족부양자 140명을 대상으로 시행되었다. 치매환자 가족부양자의 사회적지지, 건강관련 삶의 질 및 부양부담감 측정은 구조화된 설문지를 사용하였고, 수집된 자료는 t-test, ANOVA, 상관관계분석을 시행하였다. 연구결과: 치매환자 가족부양자의 직업유무 사회적지지 사이에는 통계적으로 유의한 부적 상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다(ρ=-.26, p=.002). 치매가족부양자의 연령(r=.30, p=<.001)과 직업유무(ρ=.19, p=.025)는 건강관련 삶의 질과 통계적으로 유의한 정적상관계가 있는 것으로 나타났고, 치매가족부양자의 월평균소득은 건강관련 삶의 질과 통계적으로 유의한 부적상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다(ρ=-.20, p=.016). 치매가족부양자의 성별(ρ=-.28, p=.001), 진단시기(ρ=-.22, p=.009) 및 월평균소득(ρ=-.20, p=.020)은 부양부담감과 통계적으로 유의한 부적상관관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 결론: 치매환자 가족부양자의 일반적 특성을 고려하여 건강관련 삶의 질과 사회적 지지를 증가시키고 부양부담감을 줄일 수 있는 프로그램 개발이 필요하다. The purpose of this study was to describe status of social support, Health-related quality of life and caregiving burden in family caregivers of persons with dementia living at community-dwelling. Methods: This study included 140 family caregivers of persons with dementia. Social support, Health-related quality of life and caregiving burden are measured structured questionnaires each. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using t-test, ANOVA and correlation analysis Results: There was statistically significant negative correlation between social support and job(ρ=-.26, p=.002). Health-related quality of life with age (r=.30, p=<.001) and job(ρ=.19, p=.025) were statistically significant positive correlation relationship, and is a significant monthly income there was statistically significant negative correlation(ρ=-.20, p=.016). There was statistically significant negative correlation between caregiving burden and gender(ρ=-.28, p=.001), diagnosis after recognition(ρ=-.22, p=.009) and monthly income(ρ=-.20, p=.020). Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that programs be developed to increase perceived health status, social support and to decrease caregiving burden for family caregivers.
