Sight and Sound Theatres 몰입형 뮤지컬에 관한 연구 - 뮤지컬 ‘JESUS’를 중심으로 -

본 연구는 Sight and Sound Theatres의 뮤지컬 작품 중 예수의 공생애를 다루고 있는 ‘JESUS’를 통해 몰입형 뮤지컬의 요소에 대해 연구하였다. 뮤지컬 ‘JESUS’ 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 먼저 Sight and Sound는 공연 기획, 제작, 섭외 홍보, 자체 극장, 자체 웹 서비스와 자체 앱 서비스 등 공연 전반적인 작업을 외부 인력 없이 자체적으로 해결하고 운영하는 방식이다. 두 번째, Sight and Sound는 110피트(33,528m) 크기의 플라잉 LED 스크린과 보조 스크린 등 최신장비를 도입하고, 관객의 주변 시야 확장을 위해 상수와 하수 객석 쪽에 사이드 스테이지를 설치하였다. 세 번째, Sight and Sound의 작품 속 배우와 동물들 동선의 등장과 퇴장을 다양하게 하고 있다. 그로인해 관객들로 하여금 공연을 관람하는 것을 넘어서 공연에 참여하는 것과 같은 몰입도의 요소들을 독립적으로 제공하고 있다. 다만 Sight and Sound에 대한 선행연구가 미비하기에 이러한 부분을 보완하여 지속적인 고찰을 이어가야 할 것으로 보인다. This study investigates the elements of an immersive musical through ‘JESUS’, a musical out of musical works of Sight and Sound Theaters which covers the public life of Jesus.The main research results of the musical ‘JESUS’ are as follows. First, Sight and Sound Theaters has a production method that does not rely on outsourcing for performance planning, production, public relations, in-house theater, in-house web service and in-house app service. Second, Sight and Sound introduces the latest equipments and facilities such as a 110-foot (33,528 m) flying LED screen and auxiliary screen, and installed side stages on the right and left side of the audience seats for the expanded view for the audience. Third, the musical works of Sight and Sound use various ways for the appearance and exit of actors and animals. As a result, Christian musicals independently provide elements of immersion, through making the audience indirectly participate in the performance, not just sit and watch the performance. As prior research on Sight and Sound is insufficient, these aspects should be considered and in-depth studies need to be continued.

기독교뮤지컬의 선택속성이 관람만족과 관람 후 행동의도에 미치는 영향

예술분야로서의 뮤지컬과 종교에서 다루는 뮤지컬은 다소 다른 측면을 가질 수 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 점에 착안하여 기독교세계관을 기반으로 하는 기독교뮤지컬의 선택속성을 중심으로 연구모형을 설계하였고, 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위한 실증분석을 진행하였다. 본 연구를 통해 나타난 결과는 첫째, 선택속성과 관람만족 간에 유의한 영향관계가 존재한다. 둘째, 관람만족과 관람 후 행동의도, 특히 구전 의도에 높은 수준의 설명력을 가지고 있는 것으로 분석되었다. 나아가 기독교뮤지컬의 선택속성이 관람만족의 과정을 거치치 않고도 직접적으로 구전의도 및 재관람 행동 의도에 정(+)의 영향을 미치고 있으며, 구전의도에는 작품의 명성과 작품성이, 그리고 재관람 의도에는 작품의 명성과 공연장소가 정(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구가 기독교뮤지컬의 관련변수를 중심으로 연구를 진행한 점에서는 연구의 의의가 높지만, 향후 연구에서는 비기독교인의 분포를 높이고, 변수 간을 매개, 혹은 조절하는 변수를 추가로 구성하는 시도가 필요할 것으로 보인다. This paper is designed to address the extent of impacts that religious musicals may have upon on audience in contrast to the mainstream musicals by exploring choice attributes of Christian musicals, which are based on the stories of the Bible. Through empirical analysis, the paper shows that there is positive correlation between choice attributes and viewing satisfaction, while explaining choice attributes’ impact on behavioral intention of audience, typically in word-or-mouth intention. It further shows that choice attribute of Christian musicals have direct positive impacts on both of behavioral and word-of-mouth intentions, which revisit intention is positively related to its reputation and the performance place. This study’s significance lies in the use of Christian musicals to explore the complex interactions between choice attributes and audiences’ behavioral intentions afterwards. However, it will also further benefit if future research include further mediating, control variable, including non-Christians.

원작 소설 『레 미제라블』이 뮤지컬로 매체 전환되는 특성 연구

본 연구는 소설『레 미제라블』이 매체 전환을 통해 뮤지컬 〈레 미제라블〉의 과정을 거칠 때 일어나는 특성에 관한 연구이다. 연구 결과 뮤지컬 〈레 미제라블〉 작품이 가지는 매체 전환의 특성은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 소설에서 다루고 있는 내용을 삭제, 축소, 변형, 추가라는 각색의 과정을 거치면서 대본 작업이 이뤄진다. 둘째, 텍스트의 넘버 작업을 통해 청각적인 매체로 전환이 이뤄진다. 셋째, 소설 텍스트를 기반하고 있는 가사에 충실한 넘버를 통해 대사 전달이 일어난다. 넷째, 소설에 등장하는 인물들의 특징은 넘버 안에서 음악적 기법 등을 활용하여 인물의 내면 심리를 표현하고 있다. 이러한 과정을 통해 텍스트 형식의 소설은 무대위에 시청각의 확대를 가져오는 것임을 알 수 있다. 다만 연구 결과에서 보여지는 요소들이 모든 매체 전환 작품의 특징이라고 할 수는 없기에 향후 재창조 되어진 작품들의 연구를 통해 매체 전환 작품들의 공통점에 대한 고찰을 이어나가고자 한다. This study is a study on the characteristics that occur when the novel 『Les Misérables』 goes through the process of the musical 〈Les Misérables〉 through media conversion. As a result of the study, the characteristics of the media conversion of the musical 〈Les Miserables〉 were found to be scripted and numbered, and the details are as follows. First, the script is made by deleting, reducing, transforming, and adding the contents covered in the novel. Second, the text is transformed into a visual medium through the musical script. Third, the dialogue takes place through a number that is faithful to the lyrics based on the text of the novel. Fourth, the characteristics of the characters appearing in the novel are expressed through the use of musical techniques within the numbers to express the inner psychology of the characters. However, although the above-mentioned contents cannot be said to be the overall characteristics of works that occur in media conversion, we intend to continue the consideration of media conversion through research on recreated works in the future.

Application of Multifactor Model to Stock Market Index Prediction using Multi-Task Deep Learning

A multifactor model, extracting the common factors in returns and then tests whether expected returns are explained by the cross-sections of the loadings of security returns on the factors, have been popularly studied in cross-sectional return predictability in an efficient stock market. We deploy a long short-term memory (LSTM) networks in a multifactor model using individual stock returns in predicting out-of-sample return of the S&P 500 composite index from December, 2007 to December, 2010. We find that a LSTM network, a state-of-the art technique for sequence learning outperforms a factor regression by principal components. The outperformance, measured by the mean squared errors, is clear in predicting composite returns during the most recent financial crisis (January, 2008-June, 2009) when the LSTM is trained by data after dimensionality reduction by various autoencoders including denoising, and contractive autoencoder. Furthermore, we suggest a unique architecture of a multitasking network, consolidating an autoencoder and a LSTM network, resulting the best performance in application of a AE+LSTM network to a multifactor model.
