In this paper, an accelerated evaluation method for contact material transfer using an equivalent electric load is introduced, which is widely applicable to automotive relays having a current profile of high inrush current. Material Transfer between contacts under arc conditions when two contacts are closing and/or opening eventually leads to non-opening-type contact failures in electromagnetic relays. In most relay evaluation processes, a programmable electronic load including a controller have been commonly used in the past to avoid real loads (motor, actuator, lamp, and etc.) which is cumbersome and bulky; however, the programmable load cannot exactly trace a capacitive inrush current, where its rise time is less than few micro seconds, due to the controller and sensor speed. Hence, an accurate evaluating method to use an equivalent load which mimics a pump motor having large input filter capacitor is proposed and experimentally verified with automotive PCB relay having AgSnO₂ electrodes.

After a research on excessive resistance in SAB system, the low frequency vibration was confirmed to have a negative effect on the terminal crimp. Hence a verification test mode was needed. This paper specifies the validation mode for the low frequency effect on the terminal crimp through the Pre Aging Test and the Slow Motion Test.
