본 연구는 전통과 현대의 접목을 시도하는 연구로서 전통회화의 한 장르인 민화에 나타난 연꽃 문양을모티프로 현대적 색채를 배색하여 전통에 현대적 이미지가 첨가된 디자인을 개발하고자 한다. 연구범위는 민화와 연꽃에 대한 이론적 고찰과 연꽃문양 모티브의 가방과 그림액자 디자인 발상과정 및결과물이 포함된다. 연구방법은 문헌과 논문, 인터넷사이트 등을 통하여 민화의 일반적 고찰과 연꽃의 유래와 상징, 문화상품과 관련된 선행연구를 살펴보고이를 바탕으로 가방과 그림액자의 디자인 발상을 전개하였다. 디자인 발상과정은 문양 선택, 문양의 색채배색, 제작기법 선정 등의 과정을 거쳤으며, 디자인 제시는 디자인 발상과정을 통해서 얻어진 결과를 가방과그림액자 등으로 제작하였다. 이상과 같이 전통을 현대화하는 연구는 우리의 전통미를 재발견하고 현대화시키며 나아가 고부가가치의문화상품 디자인을 창출하는데 도움이 될 것으로 사료된다. The study aims to discover the beauty of Korean tradition and to modernize it. It will be of value to develop designs for bag and picture frame by utilizing these various patterns of traditional lotus portrayed in folk painting. The current study is based upon document searches (including research papers) and the Internet searches. Through these searches, it investigates the concept of folk painting, the origin of lotus depiction and its symbolic meanings, the traits of such pattern. Based upon this investigation, the study attempts to modernize the patterns of lotus and apply the modernized patterns to designing bag and picture frame. The process which employs the lotus patterns illustrated in folk painting, to bag and picture frame design includes three sub-processes: selecting,coloring, and selecting production techniques. Once these processes are completed, the bags are made on a scale of real-life size. And picture frame made by features(i.e. lotus leaf, lotus bud, lotus pip). These processes of creating cultural merchandise by modernizing traditional patterns will hopefully contribute to researchers expanding the domain of cultural merchandise design.
