Purpose: This study was to analyze researches published in Korea and foreign country on the warming therapy for surgical patients. Methods: 36 researches published between 1980 and 2008 were included in this review. 36 studies were analyzed by general characteristics, type, application time, dependant variable and effect of warming therapy. Results: Researches were mostly published between 2000 and 2008, studied in the foreign country, non-degree, surgery with general anesthesia.. The highest percentage of age was 21∼60 and sample size was 21∼60. Types of warming therapy were 30, and dependant variables were 52. A large percentage of outcome indicators were active external warming, intra-operative, and body temperature. 'Positive effect' and ‘no effect’ of warming therapy were about the same. A large percentage of 'positive effect' were body temperature, shivering, and acid-base balance. A large of 'no effect' were heart rate, blood pressure, and hemodynamics. Conclusion: Various types of warming therapy, dependant variables, and application time were used. Also, the effect of warming therapy was inconsistent. Therefore we need to discuss research design, effective and efficient warming, validity and measurement of dependant variable forward. I think this study will be helpful for basic data to develop the standard guideline to warming therapy for surgical patients.

Purpose: This study was done to analyze the relationship among emotional labor, burnout and job satisfaction of nurses. Methods: The data were collected from March 10th to April 10th, 2014 using self report questionnaires given to 194 clinical nurses working in the university hospital. The data were analyzed by mean, standard deviation, and Pearson correlation coefficient using the IBM SPSS program. Results: The average score of emotional labor was 3.49±0.83, burnout 3.19±0.84, and job satisfaction 2.94±0.72. The emotional labor had a significant positive correlation with the burnout(r=.47, p<.001) and a negative correlation with the job satisfaction(r=-.31, p<.001), and there was a significant negative correlation between burnout and job satisfaction(r=-.64, p<.001). Conclusion: the emotional labor had a significant positive correlation with the burnout and negative correlation with the job satisfaction. Therefore clinical nurses require a perception and positive coping strategy about emotional labor, and hospital should provide them an efficient strategy in order to control the emotional labor of them.

Purpose: This study was done to analyze the effects of rehabilitation therapy(RT) on knee muscle strength(KMS) in the elderly with total knee arthroplasty(TKA) through meta-analysis of randomized or non-randomized studies published or unpublished in domestic and foreign country between 1980 and 2012. Methods: From electronic database 767 studies were retrieved, of which 18 studies met the inclusion criteria. The data basis included Medline, CINAHL, KERIS, National Library of Korea, National Assembly Library, Korean Society of Nursing Science, Korean Society of Adult Nursing, Korean Academy of Fundamentals of Nursing, Korean Academic Society of Nursing Education, Korean Society of Muscle and Joint Health web sites. Words for the search were ‘TKA’ or ‘TKA and rehabilitation’ or ‘TKA and KMS’. The data were analyzed characteristics, effect size, effect variables and measurement tools of RT for KMS using the RevMan 5.3 program of the Cochrane library. Results: Type of RT was exercise therapy(range of motion exercise, aerobic exercise and machine-based exercise etc) or non-exercise therapy(education program, electric muscle stimulation, imagination therapy, musical therapy, massage etc). Effect variables for KMS were flexion, extension, ROM, peak torque, muscle strength and muscle function etc. Measurement tools were CPM(Contineous Passive Motion) machine, dynamometer, goniometer, knee isokinetic(KI), HSS(Hospital for Special Surgery), KSS(Knee Society Scale), LS(Lysholm Scale) and WOMAC(Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index). Total effect size of RT on KMS was significant. Effect sizes of RT on KMS were significant for dynamometer, KI and KSS but not significant for CPM machine, goniometer, HSS, LS and WOMAC. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that RT is effective for KMS in the elderly with TKA and dynamometer/KI/KSS are safe tools for KMS measurement. But there’s need to statement completely contents of RT and be careful for selection of KMS measurement tools.

Purpose: This study was done to analyze the effects of rehabilitation therapy on pain in the elderly with total knee arthroplasty through meta-analysis of randomized or non-randomized studies published or unpublished in domestic and foreign country between 1980 and 2012. Methods: From electronic database 767 studies were retrieved, of which 21 studies met the inclusion criteria. The data were analyzed using the RevMan 5.3 program of the Cochrane library. Results: Effect sizes of rehabilitation therapy on pain were significant for VAS, NRS and dose of analgesics, but not significant for BP and pulse. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that rehabilitation therapy is effective in relieving pain in the elderly with total knee arthroplasty. NRS, VAS and dose of analgesics are safe tools for pain measurement.
