Corrosion of the Cu alloy with 10wt% Ni in stagnant seawater with residual free chlorine was investigated. Despite that fact that Cu alloys are widely used for seawater applications due to their stubborn resistance to chloride attack, not much is known as to how the residual free chlorine in seawater affects corrosion of Cu and its alloys. In this work, immersion tests were conducted in the presence of different levels of chlorine for 90-10 Cu-Ni samples, one of the most frequently used Cu alloys for seawater application, mostly in shipbuilding. The results revealed no evidence for accelerated corrosion of the Cu-Ni alloy even in the presence of 5 ppm residual chlorine in seawater, signifying that the Cu-Ni alloy can be more tolerant to residual chlorine that has been commonly cited by the shipbuilding industry. However, comparison of polarization behavior of the alloy samples in the presence of different electrolytes with different concentrations of residual chlorine suggests that higher concentration of chlorine could increase the corrosion rate of the Cu-Ni alloy. Furthermore, it is suggested that microorganisms in the seawater could increase the corrosion rate of the Cu-Ni alloy by encouraging exfoliation of the corrosion product off the metal surface.

N/A In a study of about 1,000 bone marrow examinations performed in our haspital from 1981 to 1985, we selected 23 instances having 10 or more phagocytic histocytes in one bone marrow slide. The diagnosis, clinical features, laboratory findings and outcome of the patients with the phagocytic histiocytes were examined, and the results are as follows; 1) The disease were mainly infectious in orign, including typhoid fever, septicemia, leptospirosis, tuberculous pericarditis and EH fever, and the others were liver cirrhosis, Wilson's disease with hemolytic anemia, malignant lymphoma, myelodysplastic syndrome and agranulocytosis. 2) The clinica1 features were fever (86.8%), hepatomegaly (43.4%), splenomegaly (43.4%), lymphadenopathy (4.3%) and hemorrhagic tendency (4.3%). 3) The peripheral blood showed anemia in 82.6%, leukopenia in 39.1% and thrombocytopenia in 90.4% and reticulocytosis in some eases. 4) In blood chemistry studies, hypoalbuminemia was found in 86.8% and an increase of SGOT and alkaline phosphatase was noted in 95.7% and 78.9% respectively. LDH was increased in 100% (7/7). 5) The clinical courses of the patients with infectious diseases were good except 3 cases with fatal septicemia, and the other cases were not followed affer discharge.
열응력에 의한 선박용 에폭시 페인트의 도막파손에 관한 연구

The current oil tanker is constructed as a double hull structure which consists of oil tank and water ballast tank. Also their interior walls are coated with epoxy paint to prevent corrosion. The cracks developed on the epoxy coating cause the corrosion of the interface and the break-off of the epoxy coating. The repair of the interior walls costs lots of labor and money. The crack of the interior walls is caused by the temperature changes during operation and the stress concentration on the welding line. In this study, the thermomechanical properties of the epoxy paint were measured and the thermal stress induced by the temperature change was evaluated using the measured data. And the effect of the cure shrinkage stress was also checked.

Graves' disease associated with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura has been recorded many times in Korea. Although the autoimmune mechanism of these diseases is already thought to be significant role in the pathogenesis, the genetic factors also seem to be significant contributions recently. Even the understandings for relation of these two conditions and their pathogenesis are poor, the therapeutic results are relative satisfactory by antityroid medications, corticosteroid and/or operation. So that refractory cases are uncommon. Recently we experienced extreme hyperthyroid state with thrombocytopenia even after subtotal thyroidectomy and splenectomy followed by antithyroid medications. The cause of recurrence was thought due to autoimmune mechanism such as common antibody to thyroid gland and platelet. In these situations the conventional therapy were not satisfactory. A 38 year old female was admitted to our hospital two times due to recur after medication and operation. So she had treated with immunosuppressive agent (Cyclo-phosphamide), and then platelet count was increased, the level of thyroid hormone became normal and general symptoms were markedly improved. Although immunosuppressive agents were not the choice of drug in the treatment of Graves disease with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, we proposed immunosuppressive agent might be a alternative therapeutic method when the various conventional treatment were failed. We report a case of Graves disease with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura treated well by immunosuppressive agent who had been recurred by conventional treatments.
