Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) is applied to the analysis of 2-dimensional cylinder wake flow. Time histories of flow variables were obtained by the incompressible CFD analysis. By using the method of snapshots the correlation matrix was constructed, and then eigenvalues, POD modes and time coefficients were calculated. Finally the flow field was reconstructed by using a few of the lower POD modes, and compared to the original ones.

It is difficult to avoid measurement errors caused by the shading effect of the meteorological tower, which is used for wind resource assessment according to the IEC Standard. This paper presents a validation of the computational flow analysis results by comparing the results with the wind tunnel experiment conducted for Reynolds numbers in the104 to105 range, for the preparation of a database for use in an automatic method of correcting met-tower shading errors. A three-dimensional simulation employing the MP (Modified Production) k-ԑ turbulence model predicted a wind speed deficit in the wake region according to minimum wind speed ratio, within an MAE (Mean Absolute Error) of 2.4%.

A bus duct system for wind tower is introduced. A marine cable has been widely used in wind tower or various offshore structures. However, as the electric load capacity is increases, large number of cable lines must be used to cover the huge amount of electric capacities. Therefore, the installation of the cable lines becomes very difficult due to the heavy weight and volume of the cables. On the other hand, by using a single bus duct system line, the power capacity amount of 16 cables can be delivered with significantly compacted form. However, unlike flexible cables, the bus duct is relatively stiff which could generate the resonance phenomenon in the operating condition of the wind tower. In this study, the vibration characteristics of the bus duct are investigated and its long-term reliability during the life time of the wind tower is verified.
