Railway bridges have a significant effect on the stress and displacement of continuous welded rail(CWR). Longitudinal compression force at high temperature, combined breaking or acceleration forces can introduce track buckling. On the other hand, longitudinal tensile forces, associated with low temperatures, in combination with breaking forces may break rail. Therefore, it is very important to work out thorough counter measures for those problems, specially in high speed rail which high safety is required. The exact evaluation of longitudinal force of rail has the key to the solution. The main aim of the present paper is to examine whether the longitudinal force of CWR"s on Kyung-Bu-HSR satisfy the criteria to be fulfilled in the design of railway bridge. The analyses are carried out by using "CWRAP" program which was developed by our research group. The ballast resistance and breaking force effects on the longitudinal force of CWR are investigated.

This research carried out the experimental manufacture of the improved fastening device and its performance test as well as the structural improvement of the prototype of a new type of fastening device developed through G7 Project during the first year of the second phase. Firstly, a supplementary design for each part of the prototype was carried out in order to improve its performance and a structural analysis in order to review the stress on the fastening spring. Secondly, another prototype was manufactured and then a performance test was carried out with the criteria used for the same kind of test on the authorized ones, both at home and abroad. Finally, the usability of the device was reviewed by comparing above-mentioned test result with that of those already under commercial use.

In this paper, a numerical method for evaluating the efficiency of vibration reduction of substructure under slab track is developed for optimal design of floating slab track. The equation of motion for train and track interaction system is derived by applying compatibility condition at the contact points between wheels and rails. The train is modelled by 3-masses system and the track by continuous support beam system. Numerical analyses are carried out to investigate the effect of train speed, stiffness and damping of slab-pad, and track irregularity upon vibration reduction in substructure under the track.

The railroad under operation has very sharp curves and the state of ballast is somewhat deteriorated due to the traffic loads, which put some constraints in converting the conventional rails into CWR. In making CWR, the determination whether the ballast has sufficient capacity for resisting buckling must be made, quantitatively and qualitatively, and schemes to guarantee the required lateral resistance of ballast should be proposed. In this study, using the in-situ investigated data, the probability of buckling of CWR is given for several installation temperatures for CWR. The effect of tamping, DTS, and sleeper spacing are taken into account. The buckling probability is given as a function of curvature and installation temperature of CWR and works used to increase the ballast resistance capacity after tamping, i.e., DTS and reduction of sleeper spacing.

In this paper, the process of development of resilient sleepers, which improves the train safety, passenger comport and reduces the noise and vibration, is discussed. To determine the required material properties of elastic pad, static and dynamic simulations are performed and is applied in manufacturing. From the experiment results, it is investigated that the displacement is less for sleeper with elastic pad than that in ordinary PC form. The rate of displacement is also shown to be less for the sleeper with elastic pad. These results indicate that the elastic pad can reduce possibility of rail-corrugations and thus resulting in the reduction of maintenance costs.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the validation to passage of high speed train on conventional railway bridges. The dynamic behavior of bridge is analyzed by using the developed 3-D program. The train is assumed to moving loads and track to distributed masses. The centrifugal force due to curved track is also considered. The numerical results are compared with those measured in the site to demonstrate the efficiency of the developed program. From the parametric study, it is notified that conventional bridge gives good serviceability to passage of high speed train, specially such as TGV-K.

In this paper, the simplified method for 2-dimensional train/track/bridge interaction analysis is utilized in the analysis of dynamic behavior of bridges in which the eccentricity of axle loads and the effect of the toriosnal forces acting on the bridge are included for the more accurate train/track/bridge interaction analysis. Inverstigations mainly into the influence of vehicle speed on train/track/bridge interactions are carried out for the two cases. The first case is that only train and bridge are considered in the modelling and the other case is that train, track and bridge are considered.

The high speed train service will be offered for high-quality transport service in existing railway by Korean National Railroad(KNR). Therefore, this paper presents the results of analysis carried out to determine the dynamic response characteristics of deck plate girder bridges which are representative elevated structures of existing railway and to evaluate their suitabilities for supporting Korea Train Express(KTX) trainsets in the speed range 0-250㎞/h. Their dynamic characteristics are analyzed concerning structural safety, train-operation safety and passenger comfort. The simplified method for 2-dimensional train/track/bridge interaction analysis is utilized in the analysis of dynamic behaviors of deck plate girder bridges.
