The SONAR(SOund NAvigation and Ranging) is the system that detects objects under the sea and finds their locations by using the echo ranging technique. In this paper, as a fundamental research for finding out the SONAR characteristics, scattering phenomena for a rigid spherical scatterer and an elastic spherical scatterer are analyzed using both closed from solution, and Boundary Element Method and Finite Element Method. The results from each technique are compared. For the rigid scattering case, the solutions from closed form, BEM and FEM are closed enough. For an elastic scatterer case, coupled problem between acoustic and vibration should be considered. The results show structural resonances of the elastic sphere are closely related the sound field near the scatterer.
