Purpose: This research is a descriptive study to explore "patient respect" in nursing. Respect was analyzed as a concept in the domain of the patient. The Hybrid Model suggested by Schwartz-Barcott and Kim was used in this study. Method: For the theoretical phase, nursing and other literature were reviewed to analyze attributes and develop a working definition of the concept, respect. For the fieldwork phase, four subjects in two general hospitals in Seoul participated. With the participants' permission, the data was collected between January and April, 2002, through in-depth interview and participant observation. The data analysis progressed at the same time as the fieldwork. Data analysis proceeded according to the analysis method of Strauss and Corbin. Result: The final attributes of patient respect are suggested by consideration, recognition, cordial treatment, concern, honesty, acceptance. The final definition of patient respect as a concept in the domain the of patient is suggested by "Patient respect is that the patient is recognized as an individual with worth and is accepted, and considered to be that kind of an individual person. In addition, the patient is recognized to be an independent person and is treated with concern and honesty." Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate differences in professionalism, organizational citizenship behavior and psychological ownership between nurses and nurse officers. Method: A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 1017 hospital nurses and military nurse officers. The instruments used were the Korean Version of Hall’s Professionalism Inventory’ modified by Baek (2007), Organizational Citizenship Behavior Qquestionnaire(OCBQ) modified by Lee (2006), and the Psychological Ownership Inventory’ developed by Van Dyne and Pierce (2004). Results: The average score for military nurse officers professionalism was 3.15, for organizational citizenship behavior, was 3.43 and for psychological ownership, 3.64. These scores were higher than the scores for hospital nurses. There were significant positive correlations between the variables(r=.47~.581, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate an affirmable outcome and that the significant variables affected levels of Professionalism, Organizational citizenship behavior, and Psychological ownership. So in order to improve the level of variables, there is a need to consider strategies related to organization, work environment and conceptualization as related to the variables.

Purpose: This study aimed to develop an IRT Program in order to train the cadets of the AFNA as prospective military nursing officers to be completely ready to perform their duty under any circumstances in the field. Methods: This study was conducted using a competency-based curriculum development model with four phases. In the analysis phase the educational demands were identified by literature review and interviews with the cadets and nursing officers. In the planning phase based on the data collected in the first step the educational contents were extracted and the educational goals were set with expert reviews. In the development phase a competency profile was made up of key competencies required for the readiness and based on that the IRT Program was developed. The application and evaluation phase was intentionally omitted due to the time frame. Results : The competency profile consisted of 55 competencies which were classified into five categories : Leadership included six competencies such as conflict management and crisis communication ; Medical equipment management skill was comprised of 16 competencies including skills to deal with defibrillators and portable suction devices ; Emergency and trauma care involved 26 nursing care skills including treating gunshot wounds ; Evacuation care included four competencies which were essential while evacuating patients ; Mass casualty management consisted of three competencies including triage. The IRT Program was designed to promote each trainee to achieve the educational goals step by step with self-assessment of their own competency level and accomplishments. Conclusion: This study is expected to contribute to improving and strengthening the cadets' field readiness.
