영국의 반전운동과 68 - 베트남 연대운동을 중심으로 -

본 논문은 소규모 트로츠키 분파였던 국제 마르크스주의 그룹이 어떤 과정을 통해 영국의 68운동의 중심이 될 수 있었는가를 분석했다. 본 논문에서는 세 가지 차원에서 이들의 성공요인을 분석했다. 베트남 연대운동은 미국의 침공에 저항하는 것이 보편적 악에 대한 저항임을 부각시킴으로써 급진주의자들의 윤리적 감각을 일깨웠다. 둘째 국제 마르크스주의 그룹은 극좌파 집단의 분파주의, 패권주의로부터 자유로웠다. 개방성과 연대성에 있어서 베트남 연대운동은 새로운 전형을 창출했다. 셋째 국제마르크스주의 그룹은 국제주의적 감각, 일관된 이론적 체계, 문화적인 감수성에서 다른 진영과 구별되었다. 국제마르크스주의자들은 또한 현대자본주의와 미국의 제국주의의 침략을 일관되게 설명하는 이론체계를 가졌으며 급진적인 문화잡지를 발간함으로써 청년들의 상상력을 자극했다. This paper analyzes the way in which the International Marxists Group (IMG), a small Trotskyist faction in Britain, led the British 68 movement ― a broad movement carried out in opposition to the Vietnam War. The paper examines some of the main success factors from the perspective of the following three different elements. First, the Vietnam Solidarity Campaign (VSC) stimulated the ethical awareness among the radicals by emphasizing the fact that resistance against the U.S. invasion is not different from that against the universal evil. Second, the International Marxists Group was relatively free from factionalism and hegemonism of the extreme leftist groups. In terms of openness and solidarity, the Vietnam Solidarity Campaign created a new paragon. Third, the International Marxists Group distinguished itself from other Marxists groups, especially with regard to a sense of internationalism, a coherent theoretical system, and cultural sensitivity. Moreover, the International Marxists Group had a solid theoretical system which can consistently explain modern capitalism and the infiltration of U.S. imperialism, and also aroused the imagination of the younger generation by publishing radical cultural magazines.

연구논문 : 직접행동위원회의 반핵운동과 그 의미, 1957-1961

이 논문은 1957에서 1961년까지 존속했던 직접행동위원회의 활동을 분석하고 그것이 영국 반핵운동에 미친 영향을 고찰하는 것이다. 직접행동위원회는 간디주의적인 비폭력저항운동을 반핵운동에 도입함으로써 영국 반핵운동을 대중화시키는 데에 결정적인 영향을 주었다. 이들이 조직한 1차 올더마스톤 행진은 반핵운동을 영국의 중요한 정치적 쟁점으로 부각시키는데 크게 기여하였다. 더불어 직접행동위원회는 비폭력적인 시민불복종운동을 적극적으로 기획하고 실천하였다. 북피켄함 미사일기지 건설 반대투쟁이나 해링턴 미사일기지 건설 반대투쟁에서 직접행동위원회는 간디주의적인 시민불복종이 무엇인지를 구체적으로 보여주었다. 이들은 자신들의 불복종운동을 비폭력직접행동(NVDA)이라고 불렀다. 비폭력직접행동은 의회주의적인 방법이 아니라 대중들의 직접적인 참여와 투쟁을 통해 영국의 핵무장 정책을 전환시키려고 했던 방법이다. 직접행동위원회는 연좌시위, 핵미사일 기지난입, 핵잠수함 진입반대 등의 저항행동을 통해 반핵운동 전체에 새로운 바람을 일으켰다. 더불어 직접행동전술은 젊고 급진적인 활동가들을 반핵운동으로 끌어들이면서 이 운동을 보다 급진적인 형태로 변화시켰다. 그 결과 영국 반핵운동의 한 갈래는 핵무장해제캠페인이 주도하는 의회주의적, 로비스트적인 활동과 다른 한 갈래는 직접행동위원회와 100인 위원회의 비폭력직접행동 중심의 반의회주의적 활동으로 나뉘어 서로 공존하며 발전하였다. This thesis is to analyze the Direct Action Committee which acted on Non-Violent Direct Action. The committee was a radical pacifist organization which stemmed from the Peace Pledge Union, which had existed since 1930s, mainstream of which tried to disseminate pacifism through the changing of life style and the spiritual life of individuals. However, those who created the committee wanted to spread it through nonviolent direct actions. The Aldermaston march at Easter, 1958 was the first popular protest organized by the Direct Action Committee. The March was tremendously successful. The March stirred the British society indulged in ideologies resulting from the Cold War, thus playing a crucial role forming a new postwar political radicalism. The Committee also agitated at several sites against the construction of the nuclear missile bases. It used diverse tactics to do non violent civil disobedience. The tactics introduced the young people to the non violent direct actions and made the anti nuclear movements be more popular and more radical. At last the committee integrated with the Committee of 100, which had originated from that committee and with other activists in order to carry out more powerful anti nuclear movements.
